Because there is no other need than realizing this. The second part has three aspects: By stating names etc., abandoning power etc. meaningful things; by stating common things, abandoning power etc. meaningful things; for manifest knowledge, abandoning power etc. meaningful things. The first part has two aspects: Stating the view and then posing a question; separately refuting the three extremes of the question posed. The first part is: Many Shravakas revered ones say, even though sound directly expresses things, power etc. will not become meaningless, because name, i.e., the form of sound; and so on, i.e., characteristics, i.e., the form of things, form, feeling, perception, mental formations, consciousness. Non-associated formations different in substance from mind and mental factors, sound directly expresses, and in order to realize the self-characteristics of form etc., power etc. are needed. If so, then the sound "pot", does it express names etc. related to the mind of the speaker and listener? Or does it express names etc. closely related to the object to be expressed, the pot? Or does it express names etc. unrelated to both mind and object? The second part has three aspects: Refuting the expression of things related to the mind; in the same way, excluding the expression of unrelated things; refuting the expression of things related to the object. The first part has five aspects: Presenting an absurd conclusion and then refuting the defense against the error; presenting a reason dissimilar to oneself; that reason does not exist in other things; even if it exists, the desired conclusion cannot be established; refuting that all knowledge as proof is meaningful. The first part is: If it is said that expressing only names etc. related to the mind of the speaker and listener, then, a person seeking meaning, as the subject, from the sound "pot", will not turn to the object of the self-characteristic of the pot, because the sound "pot" does not express the self-characteristic of the pot. If because the name etc. of the pot and the self-characteristic of the pot are similar in two ways and are confused as one, thereby turning from the sound expressing the name etc. of the pot to the object, then, the sound "pot", as the subject, when you turn from the object, it is not always because you mistake the name etc. of the pot for the pot that you turn, because when you turn from the object, you are confused as one merely because the name etc. of the pot and the pot are similar. For example, if twins are confused merely because they are similar, then they will confuse each other. Furthermore, the sound "pot", as the subject, when you turn from the object, you will confuse the name etc. of the pot and the pot, which are determined in different places, as one.

It is not reasonable, because you confuse the name of the pot, etc., and the pot itself, which are merely similar, as one. For example, although there are two people who look like Devadatta, if you say to give to the one in front, you will not confuse it with the one in the back. Second, the fault that sound does not enter into meaning is the same for you, because sound speaks of the appearance of knowledge, not the meaning. If you say so, the appearance that appears to conceptual knowledge, has the property. For what you consider to be expressed, it is not the same that sound does not enter into the meaning of the external object by not expressing the meaning of the external object, because when sound speaks in a way that you and the meaning of the external object are confused as one, then the nature of the appearance arises as a wisdom that appears to be such an external object, and from that it enters into meaning. Third, for others who think that names, etc., are expressed, have the property. The reason why sound enters into meaning is not reasonable because there is no confusion as meaning in the image of wisdom, because there is no acceptance of the wisdom that appears as the image of external meaning. Fourth, if you accept the present consciousness that clings to names, etc., as meaning, then the present consciousness that holds names, etc., has the property. Names, etc., that are different entities from you are not established by valid cognition as your object of apprehension, because names, etc., that are different entities from you do not establish your negation by the power of inversion. Fifth, if it is certain that all knowledge has an object of apprehension, then the present consciousness that holds names, etc., is also established as having the object of apprehension of names, etc., because it is not reasonable for form, etc., to have its own characteristic meaning. If you say so, if knowledge is pervasive with having an object of apprehension, that is not reasonable, because dream knowledge, etc., sees other images than having an object of apprehension. If it is not established, because dream knowledge is also born from the object of action as the object of apprehension, if you say so, dream knowledge, has the property. It is also not born from the action as the object of apprehension, because it appears as blue and shape, etc. The pervasion is accepted, because it is thought that the action is separated from color and shape. If the dream knowledge appears as blue, etc., as its own characteristic reality, then the dream knowledge
