Where is it shown? The object of entry, the measurable, and the own-characteristic are summarized into one. Refuting what contradicts the two things stated there. The first has three: Showing the two previously mentioned as the basis, explaining whether the characteristic exists in the object or not, and showing the difference of the general characteristic. The first has two: the actual basis and refuting the dispute. The first is: What is the basis of the two measurables mentioned in "because of the two measurables"? The own-characteristic and the general characteristic, subject. You have a basis, because whatever is measurable, that which is ultimately functional, that is, capable of producing results, and is a unique object, not the object of sound, and whatever is the appearing object of the mind that follows the object, that is ultimately existent in this treatise. Other things such as not being able to function ultimately are conventionally existent here, that is, ultimately existent and conventionally existent, those are said to be your basis in order. The meaning of "here" is to show the establishment of the two truths of the Sautrantika school, because Yama shows the establishment of the two truths of the inferior vehicle, as it is said. Therefore, this treatise shows the basis of both the own and the general, and the characteristics of the two truths. Combining the pervasion proof of the previous treatise and the characteristics of both the own and the general is not relevant. The second has three: refuting the dispute of the first basis, refuting the dispute of both bases, and refuting the dispute of the latter basis. The first is: The one who speaks of no-self-nature says, that which is capable of functioning ultimately should not be the basis of the own-characteristic, because if all knowledge does not have the ability to function ultimately. Answer: The sign is not established, because the seed and fire, etc., are seen to have the ability to produce sprouts and smoke, etc. If it is thought that seeing it in this way is only conventionally produced, but not ultimately, if this is made the characteristic, then it is too pervasive, and if ultimately produced is made the characteristic, then it is impossible. Whether it is conventional or ultimate, whatever is seen by valid cognition to be able to function is made the characteristic. If it is named conventional, then what does it matter? Thus it will become a dispute over names.
