For no reason. Fourth: If the general characteristic of a pot is the subject, it can be said to be the thing itself and different, because it is acknowledged to be something different from the general characteristic of woolen cloth, etc. Then, if it is said that the previous reason is not established, the general characteristic of a pot as the subject, just because you are different from the general characteristic of woolen cloth, it is not that the reason for not being the thing itself and different is not established, no, it is not the reason that you, these things, depend on what, and in any case, cannot be said to be the thing itself and different, but because from the appearance of itself, it cannot be said to be the thing itself and different, that is the reason. If it is acknowledged that the general characteristic of woolen cloth is a different thing, then the general characteristic of a pot and the general characteristic of woolen cloth as the subject, cannot be said to be a different thing, because the proximate cause of the pot and woolen cloth are different things, so it is only established as a different thing. The third has two parts: stating the accepted and establishing the consequence, refuting the fault of distinguishing between real and imputed. The first is: for the meaning of the past and future pot, the hearing of the word "pot" with the reason of the general characteristic of a thing will also arise, otherwise, oneself is not a thing, and the general characteristic of a thing does not exist, so there is no cause for the sound to arise, which would be a fault. If you say so, the thingness of the general pot as the subject, how can it become the dharma of the past and future pot when it is not a thing now, it will not become, because it is a thing now. If you admit it, the sound of "pot" will not arise in the past and future pot, because there is no thingness of the general pot. The pervasion is admitted. The second is: if you think that the word "pot" arises because of the proximate establishment of the past and future pot, because the cause of the arising of the real name needs the thingness of the general, if you say so, the thingness of the present pot does not exist, the past and future pot as the subject, the name "pot" arises in you as an imputed name, the difference that it does not arise as an imputed name in woolen cloth etc. is unreasonable, what is the reason why the name "pot" arises as an imputed name? It does not exist in woolen cloth etc., and what close relationship do you have with it? Because there is none. In addition, the idea that the name arises as a real name and an imputed name because of the existence or non-existence of the thingness of the general is famous in the world.

Moreover, this also contradicts the distinction between real names and imputed names. Because in the world, from a name, the mind understands the thing without any confusion, such a name is always a real name; and because the object referred to by that name has some qualities in common, that name is applied to other things, which is called an imputed name. For example, calling a lion a lion, and calling a Brahmin's son a lion because he has the same qualities as a lion, such as bravery, exists in the world. Furthermore, this also contradicts the distinction between real names and imputed names that is famous in treatises. Because treatises say that even if the thing itself does not exist, the term that beings use for a certain object, that is, the arbitrary sound, which is the object to which the name is applied, that name is a real name; and because the object referred to by the real name has some qualities in common, therefore, from that name, the name that gives rise to a confused discriminating mind about something that is not that thing is called an imputed name applied to other things. Therefore, if an object is referred to by an imputed name, it is not necessarily the case that it does not really exist. For example, a foolish son has no ability to accomplish what is needed, so he is called "childless," and this name is an imputed name; or, just like the view of the Samkhyas, an old man who is able to do many things is also called "chief," etc., which is an imputed name given by people. The third part is divided into two points: establishing the thesis and proving the pervasion; refuting the previously stated faults with logical reasoning. The first point is: the discriminating mind that apprehends an unbroken pot in the present is the subject of the thesis. Your appearing object does not really exist, because for a broken past pot, the discriminating mind that arises from sound appears in the same way that its own object appears unclearly, so you also appear in the same way. The pervasion is established, because for ear consciousness and eye consciousness, etc., which have an object to be apprehended, their way of appearing is the same as the discriminating mind that apprehends what is broken, but those do not exist. The second point is: if the minds of the two discriminating minds that apprehend the pot in the past and the present have the same way of appearing of their own objects, because they only apprehend a general universal that is independent of clarity. Therefore, since the appearing object does not really exist, the way of appearing is not the same, if you say so, then, that is the subject of the thesis. It should not be that it only apprehends the general universal, because the general universal
