Because it will hold the previous mind, therefore it is for this reason. Fourth, in general, things have many different abilities, so they produce many results. In particular, the previous mind has the ability to be the cause of the later mind and the ability to be the object of apprehension, because the abilities are different, so merely being the cause does not become the object of apprehension. Things have the characteristic that one has many different abilities, and many have one ability, so it is not in order that they produce many and one result, even if one has many different abilities and many do not have one ability, they will produce one and many results because of their own nature or the nature of phenomena, which has been said before. Some of our own schools say that if many results are not produced from only one cause, but many results are produced from many causes, then it is not promised that only one cause will produce many results. Like this, it is not that only one cause will produce many results, and some results are not produced from only one cause, because whether one or many results are produced from a collection of causes. Then, does this contradict the view that one cause produces many results? The cause has the characteristic that it is not contradictory to say that you alone will not produce many results, because you alone will also be included in the collection of two causes. For example, a single lamp is also included in the three conditions of many people, so it will produce many eye consciousnesses. Third, refuting that one holds both the object and the consciousness. If the later consciousness will simultaneously hold the object, form, etc., and the previous consciousness, then there will be no fault of not transferring to other objects, if it is said that there is no such fault. When two letters like "A I" are spoken without interruption, considering the latter "I", etc., one object mind has the characteristic that the two words "A I" that always, that is, necessarily appear in sequence will become not in sequence but simultaneously, because the former letter "A" appears as the object of apprehension of the former consciousness, and at the same time the latter letter "I" appears as its own object of apprehension, it will become such a fault. One object also has the characteristic that twice and twice

Therefore, to whom will it appear? Because my self-awareness and that wisdom will also appear to the subsequent wisdom. Fourth, refuting the absence of an experiencer in the next life is divided into two: establishing the thesis; refuting the exoneration. First, if the logician Dignāga, as a reason for establishing, answers that if there is no self-awareness, then if the later consciousness experiences the earlier consciousness, there will be the fault of endless experiencers, and it will become not transferring to the meaning. To this, others answer that if the later consciousness transfers to another object, then the final consciousness is not experience and memory, therefore there is no fault of endless experiencers and not transferring to the object. To this, the author of the treatise himself answers that a person who sees the meaning, just as others experience the object with consciousness, all of his previous consciousnesses will become not experienced by himself, because the previous consciousness depends on the experience of the later consciousness, and there is no experience of the later consciousness. Second, if it is said that what I experience is what I directly experience, and the transformation experienced by others is not what I directly experience, therefore what one experiences and what others experience are not the same. Then, from where is that dharma that I experience established? Because it is not established by oneself, and it is not established by other consciousnesses either. If it is admitted, then, arguer, for what reason do you say the difference between one's own experience and the experience of others? Because one's own experience itself is not established. If it is said that, just as the cause of light, the eye, etc., is not light, but it is also said to be light, consciousness is also not self-established as light, but it is also said to be light. Then, the senses, etc., even if they are not self-established as light, the name of light will be applied, because light is the cause of sense consciousness. If this is the case, then the consciousnesses that desire light, such as blue perception, etc., even if they are not light themselves, blue, etc., are light, and if you do not establish yourself as light, but blue, etc., appear light to you, then all knowable things in samsara will become the fault of appearing light to you. Third, is the explanation of the chapter on direct perception in the commentary on Valid Cognition, the "Rays of Light of Samantabhadra," that is, the explanation of the third chapter.
