If it is said that it does not obscure, then when it is near, the subject is that dust and so on can obscure appearance, because the obscuring dust and so on are thin, and likewise the obscured appearance is also thin. If it is said that there are more obscuring dusts in the distance, so it obscures appearance, but not in the near, then the distance itself relative to the near, the subject is that obscuring dust cannot obscure appearance, because the obscuring dust and so on increase, and likewise the obscured appearance is not thin, but very much. Furthermore, if one sees things clearly because of the reason that things are close, then when things are very close, such as putting a vase against the eye, the subject is that the function of things will become clear, because the appearance is very clear. Second, if the meaning of near and far is seeing clearly and unclearly, and there is no seeing there, that is, relying on the karma of virtue and non-virtue, apart from the things that have existed in one of the states of clear and unclear from the beginning, various new things of clear and unclear will arise, and they exist in the near and far, so they are seen separately, then, do those newly produced things obscure each other or not? If they obscure, then those things, the subject is that for the consciousness of each other's objects, the appearance is obscured, because they obscure each other. If you admit, then, for the consciousness of the person who looks at the same thing from near and far, the subject is that the newly produced things do not appear, but what appears is the only previous thing that exists in one of the states of clear and unclear, because that thing is able to appear, and there is obscuration for the appearance of clear and unclear things. If it is said that those karmic things do not obscure each other, then, for the two people who look at the same thing from near and far, the subject is that at the same time, each will see the nature of clear and unclear things, because clear and unclear things have no obscuration, and each is able to appear. If it is said that the karma that cannot be seen obscures one of the states of clear and unclear, so it cannot be seen, then, merely clear things and unclear things, the subject is, what does the karma that you do not see do? Because it is not the result of the karma of virtue and non-virtue.

Because in the continuum that you produce, there is nothing that can benefit, nor can non-things cause harm. Third, if things have no form, it is unreasonable to see things as clear or unclear from the difference of appearance and function. Therefore, when admitting things, just like the experience arising from relying on things, as the cause of awakening habits, etc., it will hold various different forms such as clear and unclear. If various different forms are held, even if there is no remaining form of things, it is said that the difference between appearance and function is used to hold things as clear or unclear, which is a bad view of the wicked. Seventh, even if the object of grasping is exhausted, the appearance still exists, and the argument for this is divided into two parts: arguing that the appearance exists in consciousness even when things are exhausted; refuting other views of the appearance of external objects. The first part: the moments of consciousness, sound, and fire are the subject of the proposition. Because they will truly appear to the direct perception and inferential consciousness that focus on themselves, they will not fail to appear. Because when the direct perception and inferential consciousness that focus on themselves arise, they have already been exhausted and do not exist. Because the direct perception that focuses on itself and another inferential consciousness are their producers, so they arise before these consciousnesses. Therefore, even if things are exhausted, consciousness itself also appears as the form of things, thus establishing that consciousness has two aspects. The second part is divided into two parts: refuting that the simultaneous thing itself appears; refuting that the producer itself appears. The first part: If it is said that because the previous thing does not exist when consciousness arises, it will not appear, but the thing that arises together with consciousness from the previous thing will clearly appear in consciousness. Then, the thing that is simultaneous with consciousness is the subject of the proposition. It should not clearly appear in consciousness. Because it is another thing that does not benefit consciousness. If the pervasion is not established, then like auditory consciousness, even for one thing, all things will clearly appear. Because it is not a benefactor, other objects will also clearly appear. If it is said that simultaneous things, even if they do not benefit, must appear in the simultaneous consciousness, because its reason is that it and consciousness arise together from the previous thing. Then, because the simultaneous thing and consciousness arise from the same cause, it is thought that they are object and subject.
