Because with respect to the aspect of what is to be experienced as becoming the self, the subsequent cognition clearly ascertains it as an external object, it is attachment and establishment. Thirdly, if this consciousness of object appearance, as a dharma, is a kind of object-like result in name, because it appears and experiences as the nature of what is desired by oneself and another nature of what is not desired, then experiencing the aspect of what is desired or not desired will also be established in name as having cognized the meaning of the external object. Thirdly, although external objects exist, there are three proofs of self-awareness as a result: proof of self-awareness as a result, proof of the apprehended aspect as valid, and proof of external objects as other-made. The first has three: if external objects are experienced, it is too much; refuting its faults in sequence; therefore, self-awareness is proven to be the result. First, like the Sutra School, external objects are hidden, or like the Mind-Only School, although external objects exist in name, the valid measure of object appearance, as a dharma, is the self-awareness of how the mind itself experiences aspects such as desire and non-desire. It must be established that from that, it can also be determined that the object is also of the nature of desire and non-desire, etc., and not experienced as the nature of object self-awareness. If so, then one object becomes the nature of many desires, non-desires, etc., because it appears as many desires and non-desires in the minds of different individuals, hence there is this fault. Secondly, if it is admitted that one object also has the nature of many desires and non-desires, then there is no fault. Also, for two individuals who appear separately as desire and non-desire for one object, as a dharma, these two desires and non-desires will not be experienced separately, and each should also experience both desire and non-desire, because that object has the possibility of appearing to you as both desire and non-desire. If it is said that because unseen karma obscures any one of desire and non-desire, each does not experience both, then the minds of different observers, as a dharma, will not realize the object as it is because of the object, because in the case where the object exists as both desire and non-desire, you realize it as any one. Furthermore, that unseen karma, as a dharma, how can it make the object as it is

Shouldn't it appear as such? Because for things that have many natures such as like and dislike, it will appear to have only one of those natures. If it is said that the appearance of many likes and dislikes for the same thing is a conceptual thought, not the root consciousness of the thing itself, so the root consciousness will hold the thing as it is, then, the consciousness of the root consciousness is also the same, it is not that the same thing will not appear as many. Just as the same thing will appear as five because of the influence of death omens and jaundice, there is no need to connect, and later the same thing will appear as other shapes. Third, because even if the thing exists, it is not actually experienced, so the measure of the appearance of the thing, in itself, when admitting the external object as the object to be measured, it should also only have the fruit of one's own experience, because no matter how the nature of this mind appears as like or dislike, the thing will be determined as like or dislike, that is, the thing will be established as like or dislike, but in reality it is not experienced. The second part has four points: distinguishing whether the two aspects are valid or not; establishing the proof that the apprehended aspect is valid; avoiding the change of both the measure and the result to other objects; avoiding the contradiction with the statement that the cognition of things is the result. The first point is: if the external object is the object to be measured and self-awareness is the result, then will the aspect of holding become valid? When the external object is taken as the object to be measured, in itself, the apprehended aspect that appears as the thing is valid, but the holding aspect is not valid, because this is the case of establishing the external object as the object to be measured. This is universal, even if the subject of holding, that is, the aspect exists, it does not need to depend on the external object being taken as the object to be measured, because other things are not the objects of external objects. Although here, nominally the cognition of things is the cognition of things, but if analyzed, self-awareness is both that need to be established as the result, then the apprehended aspect can establish both. The holding aspect cannot establish the cognition of things even nominally, because it is the knowledge that is only directed inward. The second point is: the knowledge of the appearance of things, in itself, the aspect that appears on itself is nominally considered as the cognition of things, but like this the nature of the thing itself actually appears.
