Is it reasonable for it to descend in this way? Because it is reasonable when preventing the assertion that, as the cause of sense consciousness, it is the objective condition of sense consciousness. Secondly, furthermore, relying on the sense faculty, what is the definition of being a sense consciousness? If it is said that any mind that actually operates according to the presence or absence of the sense faculty, then the appearance of two moons should also be a sense consciousness, because operating according to the presence or absence of the sense faculty is the same. If it is said that merely operating according to the sense faculty is not the definition, but rather that the sense faculty becomes clear or unclear, and thus the knowledge also becomes clear or unclear, that is a sense consciousness, then why should this appearance of two moons be prevented from being a sense consciousness? It is unreasonable to prevent it, because it is that which changes with the change of the sense faculty. The second part is divided into two points: refuting with an overly broad conclusion, and refuting with the sign of appearing clearly. The first point: the knowledge of the appearance of two moons should also be, when there is a change in the sense faculty, such as pressing the eyes with fingers, it will also change, but the derangement of the sense faculty will not change even if it disappears, that is, the self-cause derangement of the sense faculty does not change according to its presence or absence, because it is a mental conception. Just like mistaking a rope for a snake, mistaking a mirage for water, etc. Also, it should be, just as saying "this is a snake" gives rise to the conception of grasping a snake, in the mindstream of others, the object spoken of by oneself, at some time, will also give rise to such grasping, and it will rely on the memory of previously seen symbols, and one's own appearing object will not appear completely clearly, because it is a mental conception. The second point: if it is specially stated in order to dispel the doubt that the appearance of two moons is a clear-appearing non-conceptual, then it is not necessary to dispel it, because any mind that appears clearly when falling asleep or waking up is non-conceptual, because it is empty of grasping sound and meaning. Whether falling asleep or waking up, if it does not appear clearly in that way, then that knowledge is conceptual, because it is a mind that actually grasps sound and meaning. Thirdly, there exists non-conceptual delusion, such as the appearance of two moons, etc.

Therefore, that phenomenon of the double moon, even if you are without conceptualization, is still a non-conceptual perception. In this statement, the very fact that perception becomes a valid cognition is blocked by the phrase "with cataracts," because even if you are non-conceptual, it is still a deceptive consciousness. Therefore, it is necessary to separately explain the two categories of conceptual and non-conceptual seeming perceptions, because not only do we need to understand the respective categories of these two, but also to understand that even non-conceptual ones can be mistaken, and therefore are not perceptions. Third, the establishment of the ascertainable object being cognized, explaining the valid cognition and its result, is divided into two parts: the general classification and the meaning of the text. First, in the Pramāṇasūtra, it says, "Perception and subsequent inference are valid cognitions, the two characteristics that measure the object." If it is said that the number of two valid cognitions is determined by the two measurable objects, then what kind of action or result do these two valid cognitions perform on these two measurable objects to achieve this determination? These two valid cognitions perform the action of cognizing these two measurable objects, because perception cognizes the self-characterized by its own nature, and inference cognizes the self-characterized by the general nature of other-meaning. So, if cognizing the other object is the result, then what is the valid cognition now? If one thinks of valid cognition and result as different entities and asks, then the teaching that the establishment of cognizing the measurable object itself is the valid cognition, and there is no other meaning beyond the result of cognizing the measurable object, is the teaching of valid cognition and its result. In this regard, considering that the establishment of perception cognizing the measurable object is taught in the chapter on perception, and the establishment of inference cognizing the measurable object is taught in the chapter on self-benefit, in both the Sūtra and the commentary, the result of inference is not mentioned here. However, the *Tarkaratna* says that for the sake of easy expression, it should be understood that both are mentioned here. Therefore, in this context, perception cognizing the measurable object is taken as the result, and its definition is established as the valid cognition. If one represents the valid cognition with novel non-deception, and represents perception with non-conceptual non-confusion, then saying that this is the valid cognition and its result at this time is not even knowing where the valid cognition and its result are. There appear to be three great traditions regarding the terminology of valid cognition and its result, namely the teacher
