If it is said that sense consciousness exists before the manifestation of mind consciousness, and you are simultaneous with the knowledge of the manifestation of self-grasping mind, then, the object of mind consciousness, possessing the wisdom of self-grasping mind, is not simultaneous, because it is the generator of the manifestation of self-grasping mind. This is pervasive, because all causes of generation are pervasively present before their generated objects. If cause and effect are simultaneous, then are they simultaneous when the cause has not arisen, or when it has arisen? If it is the former, then when the cause has not arisen, the dharma, cause and effect are not simultaneous, because the cause has no ability to produce the effect, because the cause itself does not exist. If it is the latter, then even after the cause has arisen, the dharma, cause and effect are not simultaneous, because the cause does not provide immediate help in producing the effect, because the effect has already been established. This sign is accepted. Thirdly, the object of mind consciousness, how does mind consciousness grasp, or not grasp? If it is said that it is because it is different in time from mind consciousness, then, the logicians of the Sutra school, know how to establish the grasper and the grasped when the times are different, because they know and believe that the cause that can truly establish its own similar image in that consciousness, even if the time is different, is the object of that consciousness. Therefore, even if mind consciousness has many causes, whatever cause creates the image, its nature, that is, the image, is established as the fruit mind consciousness, and it is said in the world that the fruit mind consciousness also grasps it, because the fruit mind consciousness arises following your image. Thirdly, explaining self-awareness as manifest by proving that what is experienced is knowledge, there are two parts: the general establishment and the meaning of the text. The first part is, in general, all consciousnesses, when turning inward, are considered to be self-aware, and therefore their own nature is said to be self-aware as manifest. The meaning of being self-aware when turning inward is not that what is experienced arises first and then turns inward, because if that were the case, it would become a memory consciousness of remembering the past. Therefore, consciousness

When all beings arise, they arise merely as experience, merely as awareness, merely as manifestation. Because of this reason, later they recall, "My consciousness became like this." Because of the arising of recollection, the key to establishing self-experience or self-awareness through the mark of recollection also lies in the fact that when oneself arises, it is not awareness in the manner of object and subject, but rather oneself arises merely as the nature of experience, and this itself is established as self-awareness. If one arises as the nature of experience or awareness at the time of one's own arising, then considering that self-awareness is established by that very fact, it is said in the Pramāṇasūtra, "Attachment, etc., self-awareness is without conceptualization." And it is said, "Conceptualization is also considered self-awareness, but in reality it is not, because it is conceptualization." Thus, it is explained from the perspective of attachment, etc., which are difficult to ascertain as self-awareness, and conceptualization. Considering that this pervades all consciousness, the great master Sakya Paṇḍita also said, "Self-awareness is merely the negation of matter." Etc. In this treatise, the explanation is given on the basis of the referent, such as happiness, etc., in order to refute the false conceptualization of the Vaibhāṣikas who consider happiness, etc., to be internal matter, and the Sāṃkhyas who consider happiness, etc., to be external matter. The second part has two points: establishing that the experiencer is of the nature of non-conceptualization, and refuting that the experienced is matter. The first point is: the nature of happiness, etc., as the subject, your self-awareness that experiences them is not a conceptualization that is connected with the name and meaning of that expression, that is, holding them mixed together, because you are actually not able to function as an indicator, because you as an object do not rely on following other things. The second part has two points: refuting that happiness, etc., are internal matter, and refuting that happiness, etc., are external matter. The first part has two points: stating the view, and refuting that view. The first point is: these things, such as happiness, etc., as the subject, how can they know their own nature, that is, they cannot know, because other external things are also not knowers, because they are internal matter. Therefore, some, that is, the Vaiśeṣikas, say that the consciousness that relies on the same basis should be known by other substances. The second part has three points: establishing that happiness, etc., are consciousness, refuting that other consciousness experiences them, and showing that object and other are the two knowers. The first part has three points: showing pervasion and establishing the reason, cause
