Explaining the cause of uncertain illusion. Even if seen, it is uncertain, with examples. To dispel illusion, subsequent inference is necessary. If there is no illusion, then no reason is needed. The first case is: Generally, things like sound, which are the basis of impermanence, are the subject. When you are established by direct perception, generally, your impermanence itself is established, because you and your impermanence are the same entity. So, how does subsequent inference intervene? Taking the correct reason based on the subsequent inference that sound is impermanent as the subject. It is necessary, because although the impermanence of sound is established by direct perception, if it is not established by definite understanding, then in order to make sound fully established by definite understanding with that kind of impermanence, you intervene. The second case is: Even if impermanence is seen by direct perception, what is the reason why it is not certain by subsequent conceptualization? In some cases where things are seen to arise with causes by direct perception, it is the subject. Even if the impermanence of that thing is seen by direct perception, it is not fully understood by conceptualization, because after the moment of that thing, there are other things similar to it without interruption. This is pervasive, because the appearance of similar other things causes illusion, so seeing the previous and subsequent moments of things as different, that is, there is no certainty. For example, eggs, eggs are different in meaning, but the root consciousness does not see them as different. Here, some people take the example of eggs, eggs being different before and after, although the root consciousness sees them as different, but the conceptualization does not determine them as different, which is unreasonable, because it must be admitted that the root consciousness that appears as a wheel due to the rapid rotation of the torch is not confused. The appearance of similar other things is the cause of illusion as constant, because in this way, without relying on reason, beings from wise to children, for the later appearance of similar kinds, through direct perception see the destruction of unrelated butter lamps, etc., so they completely determine it through subsequent conceptualization. The third case is: Even if seen by direct perception, it is not certain by subsequent conceptualization, for example, things like seeds are the subject. Because your ability to produce sprouts has become your nature, so you are established by direct perception through seeing, but sometimes because you are confused about that ability, it may be uncertain, because the fruit arises from you

You see the sprouting shoots and so on growing, because there is no manifestation of seeing (the sprouting shoots, etc.); you cannot produce sprouts, because there is no clear presentation in the face of the manifesting realm of the Dharma that can determine that you are different from the sprouts, because the sprouts do not arise immediately from you. Fourth, it is necessary to state the reasoning and subsequent inference as proof of the impermanence of color and the ability of seeds, etc., because it is to dispel the confusion caused by the appearance of similar other things, etc. Fifth, for the great wisdom that is free from the confusion of mistaking color and other things as permanent, there is no need to apply reasoning and inference to prove the impermanence of color and so on, because by seeing color and so on with your own eyes, you can use the definite knowledge derived from it to determine all forms of impermanence and so on. If things and their impermanence are not different in essence, how can they become Dharma and Dharmas? For Dharmas that do not have many different Dharmas in essence, such as sound, can be used as Dharmas; and many reasoned wisdoms that return from different errors, and how to discern different sounds, etc., will operate like supports that have differences in essence, because even if they are the same in essence, they will return from all uncreated, permanent, and other different categories. Therefore, sound and other Dharmas, if you do not have the delusion of permanence, then after you see its manifestation, there is no need to use reasoning and inference to prove your impermanence, because if you do not have the delusion of permanence, then it will naturally generate the wisdom of determining impermanence that is consistent with itself and subsequently. Third, for the view that things are the same entity when they are destroyed, it is also an inference, according to the previous explanation, or for the view of the Vaibhashikas and others who claim that things are impermanent from existence to non-existence, the measure of determining the impermanence of color is not a measure other than direct perception and inference, because when seeing the last moment of color, due to the absence of the basis of seeing the previous color, it is an inference that establishes the destruction of color. The reason is established, because in their view, the things that arose earlier disappear later and are invisible.
