If it is asserted that earth and so on sometimes do not necessarily arise, then attachment and other dharmas, for some individuals, will not arise because they are without cause, because they are devoid of similar causes. Or, if it is asserted that the elements are the actual cause, then all minds of desire and so on, for all individuals, will arise at all times. Because for all individuals, their actual cause, the elements, are always present. The sign is accepted. Second, there are four aspects to establishing characteristics such as impermanence: establishing impermanence, suffering, selflessness, and emptiness. First, the aggregates of appropriation, which are the basis of the truth of suffering, are impermanent because they sometimes cease to exist. Second, the aggregates of appropriation are suffering because they are the basis of faults, attachment to self, attachment to what belongs to self, and birth, aging, sickness, death, and so on, and also because they are under the control of the cause, craving. Third, the aggregates of appropriation are not self because they do not conform to the characteristics of self, because they are impermanent, numerous, and dependent on others. Fourth, the aggregates of appropriation are not even what is blessed by a self, because the self is not the one who blesses you, because the self is not your cause, because the self is permanent. This is pervasive, how can the permanent be a cause of producing results? It cannot be. Self, as a permanent entity, it is impossible for multiple results to arise from you, a single permanent entity, at different times, that is, sequentially, because the permanent is not a producer of results. Furthermore, self and other permanent entities cannot possibly be the cause of suffering and so on, even if other causes of suffering and so on are assembled, because the cessation of suffering and so on due to your absence is not something you possess. This is pervasive; even if other causes of some results are assembled, if a certain dharma is lacking, the result cannot arise, then from that assembly, other causes can be inferred, and not otherwise. Second, establishing suffering with its cause, explaining the truth of the origin.

In short, here, those who follow the Ornament for Clear Realization also divide the remaining three truths into four aspects each, and the gods show the three aspects of the cause of the truth of origination, the cessation of the truth of cessation, and the path of the truth of the path, so the remaining three aspects are established, there are two statements. If according to the latter statement, there are three: proving that suffering is related to the cause; refuting the view that the cause is other; showing that the main factor of the cause is craving. The first is divided into two: proving that it is related to the cause because it occasionally arises; refuting the reason for proving no cause. The first is: this suffering, has a cause, because it is occasionally produced. This is pervasive, if there is no cause, it will always exist or completely not exist, it will not be occasional, because if it is without cause, it does not need to depend on other conditions. The second is: some people, that is, those who claim that nature is the cause say: just as the sharpness of thorns, etc. is without cause, so these sufferings will also arise without cause. This is unreasonable, the sharpness of thorns, etc. and the truth of suffering, also have a cause, because there are other, previous things that follow or return. This is pervasive, any other, previous existence, depending on it, any other, later things arise, or any other, previous change, that is, return, then the later things will also return, the things that follow or return are called the cause of the latter. Then, is the object touched by the cause of the objective condition of eye consciousness the cause of eye consciousness? Because other, later things, that is, eye consciousness, follow or return. The object touched by the cause of the objective condition of eye consciousness is what is seen, that is, the reason for eye consciousness, is an indirect cause, because it is the cause of the color that has become the objective condition of eye consciousness. The second is: in this way, suffering is proven to be related to the cause, and it will not arise from different kinds of causes, for example, this suffering, it is impossible to arise from Ishvara and the permanent sovereign, etc., because in general, permanent dharmas have been refuted as causes.
