Explaining its three modes of proof. Explaining its three modes of proof. Secondly, explaining its perfect mode of proof, which is divided into two parts: the final analysis and the actual meaning of the text. The first part is: the earlier scholars divided the necessity of "transformation" into two types: "distinction" and "comprehension." First, refuting the first view, which is "valid cognition is permanent, whether it exists or not," and so on. The argument against the latter view is: "valid cognition is the knowledge of hidden meanings," and so on, which is one verse. The answer is "to show the lack of understanding," and so on, which are said to be four verses, all speaking with one voice. However, this is not the intention of the author of the treatise, because "proof needs dependence." This statement is the conclusion of the necessity of "distinction," and should not be explained separately as the necessity of "comprehension." Even so, in the debate, three arguments were raised, and these four verses only answered the first argument, thus leading to the failure to answer the latter two arguments. If it is thought that the latter two arguments were answered by explaining the proof in a forward and reverse manner, then these three arguments should be explained before all the subsequent texts, rather than just before these four verses, which is like covering the head with a cloth and not knowing who took the tail. In short, although the latter two arguments are arguments about the necessity of "transformation," these four verses did not answer them. Although these four verses answered the first argument, it is not an argument about the necessity of "transformation," so they are completely unrelated. So what should it be like? Before this, the object to be proven, "valid cognition" and "transformation," have been explained. The argument about the meaning of "valid cognition" is: "valid cognition is the knowledge of hidden meanings," and so on. The argument about the necessity of "transformation" is that there is no such proof of valid cognition, and even if there is, no one takes it seriously. These three arguments are expressed here in one verse. Although the answer to the first argument did not appear directly at the beginning of the text, the teacher supplemented four verses, through which he proved the meaning of necessity, that is, omniscient valid cognition, by means of reasoning. When it is established, it can also prove the knowledge of all objects of knowledge, which is said in the first chapter: "The nature of what should be taken and abandoned," and so on, which is one verse. Therefore, the meaning of necessity is omniscience.

Taking the Bodhisattva's path of seeing as the basis for attaining omniscience is not in accordance with this system. The answer to the second debate is: it is shown by explaining the four proofs in a forward manner. First, through reasoning, it is established that the intention to benefit sentient beings, whose minds have been transformed into the nature of compassion through familiarizing themselves with the object and aspect of compassion in many lifetimes. Once that is established, "Because of love, one intends to eliminate suffering, therefore, one diligently applies methods." In this way, the teacher who applies the path for the sake of eliminating the suffering of others is established. Once that is established, "Because the first arises from accomplishment, these two are also said to be causes." In this way, the Sugata who possesses the three special qualities of abandonment is established. Once that is established, the realization that is clear and perfected in the ultimate truth of the path is established. Once that is established, "The protector speaks of the path he has seen." In this way, the protector who shows others the path he has seen is established. Therefore, saying that there is proof means "Proof arises from the familiarization with compassion." and so on. The answer to the third debate is: it is shown by explaining the four proofs in a reverse manner. First, through reasoning, it is established that the protector who teaches others the nature of the four truths without distortion. Once that is established, the realization that possesses three special qualities is established. Once that is established, the teacher who applies the path is established as preceding. Once that is established, the love and great compassion that desires to eliminate the suffering of others is established as preceding. Therefore, saying that this teacher diligently applied two methods of proof is established, that is, "Or the protector, the four truths are the teacher." and so on. Therefore, the forward direction is the nature of the reason that establishes the possibility of producing a result from the sign of the complete number of causes and conditions; the reverse direction is the sign of the result that establishes the cause as preceding, so the necessity is also only the proof of the valid person, and the teacher's diligent effort in proof, these two should be understood separately. It will benefit the fortunate disciples. Second, the actual meaning of the text has two parts: stating the wrong conception of having no proof, and showing the proof after refuting the wrong conception. First, the Bhagavan is a valid person, and it is not appropriate to rely on proof.
