, because even if you exist, if you are without the moisture of craving, it is not certain that there will be a future life. Therefore, these treatises generally prove suffering along with its cause, and prove the cause of the same kind by preventing the cause of different kinds. Among them, there are three: ignorance, craving, and karma, but the other two do not necessarily produce suffering only in the future life. Therefore, here, as the main factor of the accomplishing karma, craving is proven to be the cause, which is the point of the occasion. Third, in order to prove the cessation of suffering, the Truth of Cessation is explained in four points: proving liberation from suffering; refuting arguments about the liberated one; refuting arguments about the manner of liberation; and negating that bondage and liberation are done by the self. The first point is: craving, the main cause of suffering, is a dharma, not eternal, because it is accompanied by the cause of ignorance. This is pervasive, because the cause of ignorance may have obstacles and incomplete conditions, etc. The second point is: some say, thinking that the self (Tibetan: བདག་, Sanskrit Devanagari: आत्म, Sanskrit Roman transliteration: ātma, Chinese literal meaning: self) is substantially existent, then sentient beings, are dharmas, it is impossible to be liberated from samsara, because it is a dharma of samsara, just as fire cannot be liberated from warmth. If you say so, then that inference, is a dharma, does not harm Buddhists, because the Buddhist's intention and reason are not established, because there is no self. Then, how should samsara and liberation be established? Merely the aggregate of suffering, existing with its cause, is called samsara; merely not arising by abandoning the cause, is called liberation. If it is said that a person (Tibetan: སྐྱེས་བུ་, Sanskrit Devanagari: पुरुष, Sanskrit Roman transliteration: puruṣa, Chinese literal meaning: person) is a dharma, he will not make effort to be liberated from samsara, because there is no self of the samsaric and the liberated one. If you say so, it is admitted from the ultimate point of view, but from the conventional point of view, the reason is not established. Like this, a person (Tibetan: སྐྱེས་བུ་, Sanskrit Devanagari: पुरुष, Sanskrit Roman transliteration: puruṣa, Chinese literal meaning: person) is a dharma, in the conventional sense, it is reasonable to make effort to be liberated from samsara, because as long as attachment to the self has not been destroyed, and the aggregate with attachment to the self is completely tormented by suffering, then I cling to suffering, and there is no abiding in the nature of happiness, so in the conventional sense I am a samsaric being. Although the self of the liberated one does not exist in reality, the aggregates strive to destroy the false imputation of self and what belongs to self.
