Because the fruit of having the ability to take is such that attachment and so on cannot be diminished. For example, when bile increases, its fruit, hot diseases, and so on, cannot be diminished. If it is said that attachment arises from the equality of the three diseases, and hatred arises from inequality, then the root reason is not established. Then, the change of attachment and so on caused by the equality or inequality of the three diseases, the subject of the argument, is not directly born from the three diseases, because it is born from the happiness and suffering caused by the equality or inequality of the three diseases. The third has two parts: questioning the cause that expresses the refutation of faults, and refuting the two causes stated separately. First: If it is said that, in general, phlegm is the cause of attachment, but when suffering born from the inequality of the three diseases obstructs it, even if there is phlegm, attachment will not arise. Then, when the three diseases are equal, tell me, by what cause does attachment arise? The second has two parts: semen should not be the cause of attachment, and appearance and so on should not be the cause of attachment. First: In response to this, it is said that semen increases from the equality of the three diseases, and from this, attachment arises. Then, attachment, the subject of the argument, you are not the direct result of the equality of the three diseases and the semen arising from it, because in the inequality of the three diseases, one sees that you have it, and also, in the absence of attachment, one sees that the equality of the three diseases is not the cause of your arising, and also, in the presence of attachment, even when semen is exhausted and blood flows, one sees that you arise. Furthermore, that which has attachment, the subject of the argument, it is impossible for strong attachment to arise towards a single beautiful woman, because for that single woman, semen does not necessarily increase. Second: If it is said that the beauty of a woman's appearance and behavior, etc., are also branches of semen causing attachment, and are cooperative conditions, so it is not contradictory for strong attachment to arise towards a single woman. Then, the beautiful appearance of a woman, the subject of the argument, you are not the direct cause of attachment, because it is not certain that all those who abandon you will give rise to attachment. Attachment, the subject of the argument, is not necessarily dependent on a beautiful appearance, and it is also impossible for it to arise at all in an ugly appearance, and also, you will arise even in those who do not consider a beautiful appearance to be a virtue, because a beautiful appearance is your direct cause.

If considering beauty etc. as virtues is also a factor in generating desire, then all semen-possessing men who see beauty should be those who hold beauty as a virtue, because there is no difference between the actual cause of holding beauty as a virtue, beauty, and the existence of semen. The sign is accepted. Third, if it is a result, then it is too extreme: if phlegm is the only cause of desire, then any state with phlegm should not become so hateful, because you consider that state to be desirous. This is pervasive, because desire and hatred are dissimilar in nature, i.e., contradictory. It cannot be asserted, because in this state of phlegm, it is certain that hatred does not arise, or is not seen. Fourth, refuting the argument that is similar to oneself: If the faults stated about desire etc. arising from wind etc. are also the same for you, then, Buddhist, you do not have the fault stated about desire etc. arising from wind etc., because according to your system, desire etc. are of the same kind, i.e., viewing the aggregates as real, and depend on the difference in the predispositions previously conditioned by desire etc. The second is to refute arising from the cause of the elements, which is divided into two: refuting the creation of something new that did not exist before; refuting the maintenance of something that has already been established. The first is: desire etc. are the result of the elements, because desire arises from a greater proportion of earth and water, hatred arises from a greater proportion of fire and wind, and ignorance arises from a greater proportion of water and wind. If so, then the reasoning that refutes desire etc. being the result of wind etc. also refutes desire etc. being the nature or result of the elements, because the three, wind, bile, and phlegm, are in order the nature of the three, wind, fire, and water, so said Shakya. The second has three parts: refutation by the previous reasoning; avoiding contradictory acceptance; refuting too extreme conclusions. The first is: desire etc., you are also not dependent on the elements that have already been established, because you are dependent on the elements that have already been established, before, dependent on things that exist or do not exist. Because this reasoning has already been refuted. The second is: if generally the support and the supported are negated, then, dependent on the elements
