Because the supporting water is not permanent. It is pervasive that if once habituated, it still relies on later efforts, or becomes an unstable support, then the later differences of the object of habituation will not increase endlessly, because it is pervasive. Second, love, etc., if habituated without being separated from the cause of habituation, then later differences will naturally arise, because it is a quality that arises from habituation of the mind without relying on physical effort. For example, when fire burns wood, if there is no contrary condition, then the wood will naturally burn without relying on effort. Also, when taming mercury and gold, etc., once effort is made, it will be tamed naturally without relying on other later efforts. It is pervasive that if once habituated, it no longer relies on effort, then the previous effort will make other efforts special. This shows that jumping is not the same as habituation. Because there is an example of natural occurrence, therefore, love and other minds, if habituated without being separated from the cause of habituation, then where will it be limited? It will not be limited. Because it is a quality of mind that grows from the seeds of its own kind. It is pervasive that the qualities arising from those habituations are qualities that arise as the nature of the mind, so the previous effort makes the later differences special, and the later differences become special, because it is pervasive. This shows that it is not the same as the temperature of water. Third, if love, etc., increase endlessly, then will jumping also increase endlessly? The dharma of jumping is of a definite nature, because your cause, the strength of the body and the power of effort, etc., are of a definite limit. It is pervasive that love, etc., grow from the seeds of the same kind, similarly, jumping does not grow the later jump from the previous jump, but each time before and after relies on the effort of the body. Then, from the time when you have not practiced at first, can you jump as well as you have practiced later? Because there is no difference in cause, strength, and effort before and after.

Then, the person who jumps is the subject. He does not jump in the same way from the time he was not trained to the time he was trained later, because from the time he was not trained, he was affected by phlegm and other factors, making his body heavy due to discomfort. Later, through effort, the discomfort is gradually eliminated, but the person who jumps is the subject. He does not jump infinitely, because the jump remains in his own strength. The fourth question is: If love and so on increase from self-awareness, then since everyone has self-awareness, wouldn't it increase infinitely? Answer: An ordinary person is the subject. Love and so on do not increase infinitely, love arises from its own seed, and if its own seed has a previous cause, and is not harmed by the conflicting factors that become the fruit—hatred and so on—then the mindstream will become the nature of love, but because you have conflicting conditions such as hatred. If there are no conflicting conditions and the favorable conditions are habitual, then love and so on will increase infinitely, because like this, the previous habit and the previous mind's dharma, love and detachment, etc., are the root of the manifestation of other later differences. Third, the analogy of explaining the rationality of one's own side is: If there is no analogy for love and so on not increasing infinitely, then what is the analogy for infinite increase like? Answer: There is an analogy for love transforming into the nature of love that is willing to save sentient beings from suffering due to habit, just as by practicing detachment, attachment, and aversion, i.e., unpleasantness, those (afflictions) will arise naturally. Second, there are four ways in which a teacher arises from that: the way to guide the teacher with love, the way to purify the object and aspects of the teacher, the way to show the object and aspects becoming a teacher through habit, therefore, thinking and behavior become the cause. The first is: If it is said that "the means of proof is compassion," then how does it become the means of proof? Answer: Generally speaking, it is wrong to establish the result only from the cause, but there are also cases where the result arises naturally just because the cause exists, just as if there is craving, the aggregate of suffering will arise naturally. Therefore, if there is compassion that arises naturally, then the latter three, such as the teacher, will arise naturally, so it will become the means of proof, so it is said.
