Therefore, they consider the indivisibility of atoms and the indivisibility of moments of consciousness before and after to be true. And they consider the direct perception of meaning consciousness and self-consciousness that hold them to be not mistaken. They consider all that is coarse and permanent to be conventional truth, and they consider the conceptual thoughts that hold them to be mistaken. Therefore, since many atoms cannot compose a single coarse substance, the coarse that is different from atoms does not exist in reality. Sense consciousness does not apprehend it, but the many atoms that touch each other are apprehended by sense consciousness, because sense consciousness is what generates the appearance. The statement that atoms are not apprehended by sense consciousness refers to independent atoms that do not touch each other, which is the definite view of the Sutra School and the Pramāṇavārttika, and there is no mistake. Therefore, in this system, there are three causal sequences in the apprehension of external objects by sense consciousness: the cause that generates the appearance, the appearance generated by it, and the object of the valid cognition drawn by it. The first is the special atoms that touch each other. The second is the coarse appearance that appears in the sense consciousness at its own time. The third is the exclusion of others, which is the appearance that appears as a single entity in the subsequent conceptual thought and is falsely imputed as an external object. The first is the external object, the second is the nature of the sense consciousness itself, so it is not coarse, and the third is falsely imputed as coarse. Although the atoms that generate the appearance are atoms, the reason why they appear as a coarse appearance in the sense consciousness is that the Mind-Only School said to the Sutra School, "By what means do those atoms appear as such a coarse appearance?" This is the key to showing the internal contradiction of admitting it. Here, in Jamyang Shaypa's commentary, it is said that apart from atoms, the assertion that substantial self-character exists has not occurred in the Buddhist schools. Even if it is only explaining the tenets of the seven treatises, they do not bother to study them, but the Tibetan logicians who claim to be proficient in the seven treatises, even if they do not consult each other, agree and unanimously deny the name of the whole that is different from the parts. Atoms cannot be apprehended by sense consciousness and cannot obstruct, but the coarse self-character that is composed of them and is different from them exists in reality. It can obstruct and can be apprehended by sense consciousness, and the parts are atoms.

Even if weight is not measured by a scale, the gross weight produced by it can be measured by a scale, just like a form with limbs, and the specific difference in weight as asserted by the Vaiśeṣikas is also acknowledged. The Sugatas of the three times and their retinues, who have shown compassion by freeing me from such a burden of ignorance, are truly very kind to me. Those who boast of being scholars these days should examine this carefully. However, at this time, the gross form and the unmistakable grossness are very important. By showing that these two reasons are not established, it is also refuted that, based on these two reasons, the body and so on do not have obstructions, etc., because it is shown that the body and so on arise from the meeting of previous particles with other particles, resulting in a difference that has the ability to obstruct. Secondly, mercury, gold, etc., mixtures or hot and cold, etc., as the subject, how do they appear to the sense consciousness, i.e., they do not appear, because they are not many particles of a single substance without limbs. The collection of faculties and mental activity, etc., as the subject, how do the cognitions, sense consciousness, etc., arise, i.e., they do not arise, because there is no difference from the previous faculties, etc., which do not have the ability to generate sense consciousness separately. Both reasons are accepted. If it is said that combination arises from the collection of faculties, etc., and sense consciousness arises from combination, then, considering that the collection of faculties, etc., generates combination, here too, the collection of faculties, etc., as the subject, cannot generate combination either, because there is no difference from the previous faculties, etc., which cannot generate combination, it is the same. If it is said that when gold and mercury are mixed, there is no substance with limbs, but there is a combination of different kinds of particles meeting, so it appears, then, sense consciousness, as the subject, from where is it cognized that the combination of gold and mercury particles is mixed, i.e., it cannot be cognized, because the basis of the combination, the gold and mercury particles themselves, are invisible. Furthermore, combination is a quality, and if it is considered that a quality does not have a second quality, then, a drink mixed with sugar and alcohol, as the subject, it is contradictory for you to have a combination of taste, shape, etc., because you are a quality. If it is said that it does not have the substance of taste and shape, but it and the substance of taste and shape both gather in the particles of the drink in accordance
