Why is that? A dispassionate person does not generate anger from harming a close object, that is, an object of affection, because ignorance is the root of faults such as hatred, and that is also clinging to sentient beings, because that is absent. Therefore, the love of a dispassionate person is considered to be without the fault of hatred, because it does not arise from the cause of ignorance. The third has two parts: refuting the dispute about the dwelling place by karma, and refuting the dispute about the dwelling place by love. First, if a dispassionate person has a body thrown by karma, then it would become not liberated from samsara, if asked. That the dispassionate person dwells by karma is not the case that they are not liberated from samsara, because the power of the previous karma that manifestly produces the aggregates of this life is exhausted, the body declines, and there is no craving, so they do not connect to another existence. Whatever dispassionate person dwells in samsara, even if the power of the karma of formation is not exhausted, they are not bound by samsara, because there is no fault of samsara. Second, again, why does a dispassionate person not dwell for a long time for the benefit of sentient beings with compassion? Like Hearers and Solitary Realizers, they do not have great effort to dwell for a long time for the benefit of sentient beings, because their compassion is inferior. Those Great Vehicle Noble Ones, however, always dwell for the sake of other sentient beings, because they possess great love, which is the cause of continuously dwelling for the benefit of others. Second, refuting the argument that there is no rebirth even on the first noble path: If the view of self is the cause of existence, then on the path of seeing, the first noble path, there should be no existence, because it is free from the view of the collection of aggregates, if asked. An Stream-enterer does not not reborn because of the absence of the view of self, because even though the imputed view of self is abandoned, the co-emergent one is not abandoned. If that is abandoned, then how could an Stream-enterer have rebirth? It should be nonexistent, because the co-emergent view of self is abandoned. Why is the co-emergent view of self not abandoned? An Stream-enterer has not abandoned that, because there is a desire for oneself to be happy or not to be miserable. It is pervasive, because at that time, whatever thought thinks "I", that is the co-emergent view of sentient beings.

Furthermore, a Stream-enterer (Sanskrit: Srotaāpanna) has the property that they should not rush for the sake of pleasure, because they have abandoned the co-emergent view of the perishable aggregate. It is pervasive: if one does not see "I," then no one is attached to me; if one is not attached to me, one should not rush for the sake of pleasure. Fourth, refuting that bondage and liberation are done by the self has two parts: refuting that it is done by a permanent self, and refuting that it is done by an inexpressible self. The first is that sentient beings have the property that there should be a self that binds and a self that liberates, because there is a self bound by the suffering of samsara and liberation from it, just as Devadatta is bound by iron chains and liberated from them. If it is said that the self is permanent, then what is the source of that bondage, since it is not possible, because it is not the cause of suffering? It is pervasive: that which binds with suffering is the very cause of the arising of suffering. Again, the self is permanent, and liberation from suffering, where does that come from, since it is not, because it is not the cause of the cessation of suffering? It is pervasive: liberation from suffering is not the arising of suffering, but the very cause of cessation. Why is it not the cause of those two? The self, whatever it is, has the property that it should not be the cause of any suffering, because it is inexpressible as impermanence. The second is that the Sthavira school says that bondage and liberation are not appropriate for a permanent self, but bondage and liberation are appropriate for a self that cannot be expressed as either permanent or impermanent. If so, then even for a self that cannot be expressed as permanent or impermanent, bondage and liberation should not exist in any way, because it is not the cause of either the arising or cessation of suffering. The self has the property that it should be permanent, because it is indestructible. It is pervasive: whatever dharma whose nature is indestructible, that is what the wise call permanent. The Sthavira school has the property that the view that the self is something that is neither permanent nor impermanent is a shameful view that should be abandoned, and that self should be said to be permanent, because that self is not impermanent. Fourth, establishing the antidote to the view of self and explaining the truth of the path has two parts: showing that realizing no-self is the antidote, and stating the reason why it is the antidote. The first has three parts: by familiarizing oneself with no-self,
