Wanting to be happy. Because all beings want to attain happiness and want to abandon suffering, therefore, the craving that arises from engaging in what to take and what to abandon, I think those are successively called desire-craving and fear-craving. Because this is the difference between general and specific characteristics. This is the thought of the gods. Shakyamuni thought that pursuing the desire realm is desire-craving, pursuing the upper two realms is existence-craving, and wanting to abandon suffering is fear-craving, although it is said that way, it is a mixture with the Abhidharma, and it does not seem to fit the meaning of this treatise. Therefore, ordinary people, these three cravings are the basis of existence, the support for rebirth in samsara. Because by the craving that clings to self as the cause, non-blissful contaminated bliss is perceived as bliss, and due to craving for bliss, one will strongly enter and acquire all good and bad realms. The second part is divided into two parts: the main text and refuting the argument. The first part is: Because the birth of those free from attachment is not seen, the teachers say that attachment is the cause of birth. Master Vasubandhu said: Because the birth of beings free from attachment is not seen, therefore, birth is characterized by attachment. The second part is: The Lokayata says: Then attachment will also arise from the body, because attachment without a body is not seen, so it is the same. The answer is: The previous body is considered to be merely the cause of the subsequent attachment, because the cause of the subsequent attachment is acknowledged as a co-arising condition. If so, then it contradicts the previous prohibition of being a cause. The previous body, you are not merely the cause of the subsequent attachment, this was not prohibited before, because only the fact that you are the immediate cause of the subsequent attachment was previously eliminated. If, because the birth of those free from attachment is not seen, attachment is the cause of birth, if following this reasoning, because attachment without a body is not seen, so if the body is also considered the cause of attachment, then the Lokayata, you will be saying something that harms your own accepted view of no prior or subsequent birth, because previously you accepted that there is no prior or subsequent birth, and later you considered the previous body and attachment to be the cause of the subsequent attachment and body.

Having stated that. If attachment, the subject, is not the cause of the body, because the arising of the body and attachment occur simultaneously, because you see attachment when the body arises, and you have not seen it before, if you say so. Then the body is also the subject, not the cause of attachment, because it arises simultaneously with attachment. If you admit that, then attachment is not without a cause, nor does it arise from a cause other than the body, therefore it is established that it arises from a similar cause. In that case, the first attachment in this life, the subject, is established as having a similar cause before itself. Because it has equal potential, that is, it arises from a similar cause. Third, if only craving is the cause of arising, then the saying "ignorance, karma, and craving, arise from the treasury of aggregates" contradicts the statement that arising has three causes. If you say that, ignorance, that is, ignorance, the subject, although it is also the cause of the arising of samsara, it is not mentioned here, because it is not necessarily the cause of rebirth in samsara. Craving, the subject, you are said to be the cause here for a reason, because it is what drives the continuum of aggregates of rebirth to be projected, that is, taken, and it is the direct cause of arising. Karma is also the subject, it is not appropriate to be called the cause here, because even if there is karma, if it is without the moisture of craving, it is not certain that there will be arising. Therefore, these treatises generally establish suffering and its cause, and by negating dissimilar causes, establish similar causes. Among them are ignorance, craving, and karma, but the other two do not necessarily cause suffering only in the next life, so here, as the main function of accomplishment, craving is established as the cause, which is the meaning here. Third, establishing the cessation of suffering, explaining the truth of cessation, there are four points: establishing liberation from suffering, obtaining liberation; refuting the arguments against the liberated one; refuting the arguments against the way of liberation; refuting that bondage and liberation are done by the self. First, the main factor of the cause of suffering, craving, the subject, is not eternal, because it has the cause of ignorance. It is pervasive, because the cause of ignorance may have obstacles, or lack conditions, etc. Second, some say, thinking that the self is real, therefore sentient beings, the subject, cannot be liberated from samsara, because it is a phenomenon of samsara.
