According to the... view, attachment and so on are similar to (worldly) things. This is because they depend on clinging to the view of the destructible aggregate, and on the differences in habits previously tainted by attachment and so on, so they arise. Second, refuting the view that they arise from the four great elements is divided into two parts: refuting the view that they are newly produced from nothing; refuting the view that they make what already exists continue to exist. The first view is: attachment and so on are the result of the four great elements, because attachment arises from a greater proportion of earth and water, hatred arises from a greater proportion of fire and wind, and ignorance arises from a greater proportion of water and wind. If you think so, then the reason for refuting that attachment and so on are the result of wind and so on also refutes that attachment and so on are the very nature or result of the four great elements. Because wind, bile, and phlegm are, in order, the nature of wind, fire, and water. This is what Shakya said. The second part is divided into three points: refuting with the previous reason; eliminating contradictions with commitments; refuting overly extreme statements. The first point is: attachment and so on, as the subject, you are also not dependent on the already existing four great elements, because you depend on the already existing four great elements, previously you did not depend on existence or non-existence. Because of this reason, it is refuted. The second point is: if you generally prevent the support and the supported, then relying on the four great elements to make the form of the four great elements exist contradicts this commitment. If you think so, white and other forms made of the four great elements, as the subject, are not dependent on earth and so on in the way that they make what already exists exist, because it is impossible to have a support that makes what already exists exist. So, what does it mean that the four great elements rely on the four great elements? Form and so on, as the subject, you rely on the four great elements, the meaning of this word is not to make what already exists exist, because the previous four great elements are the meaning of your cause, or they are no different from your own support, the four great elements that exist simultaneously, that is, they exist inseparably, so you rely on the four great elements. Apart from cause and effect and inseparability, it is unreasonable for you to rely on the four great elements. If, like wine that has not deteriorated, but the ability to get drunk and so on disappears, relying in a differentiated way, the four great elements and what is made of the four great elements also rely in a differentiated way, if you think so, the ability of wine to get drunk, as the subject, does not truly rely on wine, because it is not something different from the essence of wine.

If you perish, the substance of the supporting alcohol will also perish, and if the supporting alcohol exists, then the supported you will not perish. If alcohol and the intoxicating power of alcohol are the same, and the arising mind is also the same in essence, then, the arising mind, as a subject, should not be undifferentiated, because it is a separate thing, that is, it is understood as a separate thing by the unerring consciousness of different appearances. Third, if the arising or the body is the support on which the mind relies, then the mind, thought, and discrimination, as subjects, should only arise in the same way as long as the body changes to different states, because the body is the support on which you rely, because you are knowledge. Just as before the body changes, the form and so on that depend on it arise in the same way. If it is said that the pervasion is not established, even if the support is the same, it will change into other forms due to the object of grasping, then, discrimination, as a subject, should not be the other's independence of the object of grasping, because it only turns according to desire. Third, therefore, it is established by the homogeneous cause, that is, from some previous desires, etc., some later desires, etc., arise, because when the body is independent, some previous knowledge will become the cause of awakening the habits of some later knowledge. Second, it is established by the sign of the similar cause of proximity, there are two: it is established as the similar cause of proximity because it is consciousness; refuting the argument of the Samkhyas about the established establishment. First, the newly born awareness, as a subject, has a previous awareness preceding it, because it is awareness. The pervasion is established, because what is not Alaya consciousness is not the proximate cause of Alaya consciousness. In this way, the previous life is established. Also, with the word "also", if it arises from the permanent body, etc., then everything before and after should arise simultaneously, so the saying "it is established" is summarized, as it is said, but this is established by the sign of clarity through familiarity, not only that meaning. Second, if the Samkhyas say, because all things such as grass have the nature of the power of consciousness, therefore, the newly born consciousness should also be admitted to be preceded by the previous consciousness, then, at the top of the grass and the arising places, there is an elephant galloping, and the previous consciousness
