Now, let's proceed with reasoning. If it is said to be an established reason for the example, the reason is the same. If admitted, what is the use of the uncertain pervasive death consciousness? It is meaningless. The second part has six points: refuting that the body itself is the direct cause of consciousness; refuting that body and mind are cause and effect with proximate causes; refuting the support and supported that are not producers; refuting body-mind causality with other reasonings; refuting that consciousness is the nature of the body; refuting the generation of consciousness based on the body. The first part has three points: refuting being a direct cause through examination; even if it is just a cause, it is not a remover; if it is a direct cause, it is too extreme. The first point is: if you say that the sign is the establishing reason that does not generate subsequent knowledge in both the example and the subject of debate. If consciousness arises from the body, does it arise from a body with sense organs or a body without sense organs? For the time being, consciousness does not arise directly from a body with sense organs. If it arises, consciousness, the subject, like the consciousness of the eye, will clearly grasp form, because it is the other-consciousness that arises directly from the sense organ of the eye. The remaining sense organs can also be applied in this way, thus refuting that it arises from each sense organ. Then, does it arise from the collection of all five sense organs? The five sense organs, the subject, from your collection, also do not directly produce one consciousness, because each has different abilities to produce eye-consciousness, etc., which are their own results. If consciousness arises directly from a body without sense organs, then, a body without sense organs, the subject, consciousness will not arise directly from you, because you yourself are without consciousness. If body and mind are not support and supported, then it contradicts co-existence. The body with a body and consciousness, the subject, do not co-exist because of the reason of being support and supported, even if they are not support and supported, they co-exist because they arise from one cause. For example, like the five sense organs of some beings co-exist, and like form and taste that depend on one collection co-exist. If the body changes due to illness, etc., then consciousness also changes. Consciousness truly depends on the body.

Even some external things, such as blood smeared with paint, are like that. They can be the support of the mind. Because through them, the mind also changes. The second point is that, regarding the meaning of "that is the cause," if the body is considered to be the cause that benefits the difference of the mind, then separation from the body cannot pervade the absence of mind. For example, fruits and other things, whatever existed before and benefited its own essence, is its immediate cause, so if the immediate cause disappears, the fruit will also disappear, which is inevitable, because the immediate cause always benefits its essence and follows it. Because the cause comes before and the effect arises later, therefore, the Blessed One said, "This being, that arises; this arising, that arises," where "this being" is the word of the seventh case, and "this arising" is the word of the fifth case, indicating that the cause existed before. And the two words "this arising" and "this being" indicate that the effect arises later. In order to understand that the cause comes before and the effect arises later, it must be explained in this way. Therefore, such an immediate cause and the characteristic of having an immediate cause are not established on the body and mind. In some cases, the body may indirectly benefit the continuity of the mind. Just benefiting the state of mind does not lead to the conclusion that the continuity of the mind will disappear when the body disappears, because the body is not the immediate cause of the mind. For example, although fire and other things can benefit the hardness and other characteristics of pots and other things, the continuity of pots and other things does not disappear when the fire disappears. The third part is divided into three points: refuting overly extreme reasoning; refuting the opponent's answer without favorable conditions; and refuting the opponent's answer with conflicting conditions. The first point is that if the meaning of "that is the cause" is considered to be that the body is the direct cause of the mind, then corpses and other things will have the fault of the mind not disappearing, because the body, which is the direct cause of the mind, still exists. The second point is that corpses and other things do not have mind because they do not have the favorable condition of mind—breath. If you say so, then mind, breathing arises and is inhaled from you, but breathing does not generate your continuity. Because breathing benefits the mind.
