Firstly, regarding the necessity of 'transformation' as mentioned by the earlier scholars, it is divided into two: 'partial exclusion' and 'complete exclusion.' For the former, the debate to refute is: 'Is valid cognition permanent, existent or not?' and so on. For the latter, the debate is: 'Valid cognition is the knowledge of hidden objects.' and so on, which is one verse. The answer is: 'To show to those who do not know.' and so on, which are four verses, they all say in unison. However, that is not the intention of the author of the treatise, because 'It is necessary to rely on the means of proof,' etc., is also the established meaning of the necessity of partial exclusion, and it is not to be explained separately as the necessity of complete exclusion. Even so, during the debate, three debates were raised, and the four verses only answered the first one, thus leading to the fault of not answering the latter two debates. If it is thought that the answers to the latter two debates were given by explaining the means of proof in forward and reverse order, then these three debates should have been explained before all the subsequent texts, rather than just before the four verses, which is like covering the head with a cloth and not noticing who took the tail. In short, although the latter two debates are debates about the necessity of 'transformation,' the four verses did not answer them. Although the four verses answered the first debate, it is not a debate about the necessity of 'transformation,' so it is completely irrelevant. So, what should it be like? Up to this point, the object to be proven, 'valid cognition' and 'transformation,' have been explained. The debate about the meaning of 'valid cognition' is: 'Valid cognition is the knowledge of hidden objects.' And the debate about the necessity of 'transformation' is that there is no means of proof for such valid cognition, and even if there is, there is no diligence in it. These three debates are shown here in one verse. Although the answer to the first debate did not directly appear in the homage of the text, the teacher completed it by supplementing four verses, that is, by proving the meaning of necessity, that is, the omniscient valid cognition, through reasoning. When that is established, it is also possible to establish the knowledge of all objects of knowledge, which is said in the first chapter: 'The very nature of what should be taken and abandoned is.' and so on, which is one verse. Therefore, taking the Bodhisattva on the path of seeing as the basis for the name of the omniscient one, who knows all the meanings of necessity, is not in accordance with this system. The answer to the second debate is that by explaining the four means of proof in forward order...

Declaring, first, through the repeated cultivation of the object and aspect of compassion in many lifetimes, it is established by reason that the mind has transformed into the nature of compassion, with the intention to benefit sentient beings. Once that is established, in order for the loving one to quell suffering, various methods are manifested and applied. In this way, the teacher who guides others onto the path for the sake of removing their suffering is established. Once that is established, since the first arises from the established, these two are said to be the cause. In this way, the Sugata possessing the three supreme qualities of abandonment and realization is established. Once that is established, the realization of the path truth, clear and utterly perfected, is established. Once that is established, the protector speaks of the path he himself has seen. In this way, the protector who shows the path he himself has seen to others is established. Therefore, the statement that there is a proof is: the proof is from the habituation of compassion, and so on. The answer to the third objection is that it is taught by explaining the four proofs in reverse order. First, it is established by reason that the protector teaches others the truth of the four noble truths without error. Once that is established, it is established that the realization possessing three special qualities has been manifested. Once that is established, it is established that the teacher who guides others onto the path has gone before. Once that is established, it is established that the love and great compassion that desires to remove the suffering of others has gone before. Therefore, it is established that this teacher has diligently applied the two methods of proof, that is, the protector, who teaches the four truths. And so on. Therefore, arising in sequence is the nature of the reason that establishes the possibility of a result arising from the sign of a complete collection of causes. Reversing the sequence is the sign of the result that establishes the prior cause, so the necessity is only that there is a valid proof, and that the teacher has diligently applied the proof. These two should be understood separately. There will be benefit for the fortunate disciples who possess good karma. Second, the actual meaning of the text has two parts: stating the false conception that there is no proof, and showing the proof by refuting the false conception. First, the Bhagavan is a valid authority, and it is unreasonable to rely on proof for this, because in general, if a person is a valid authority, then he himself should know all hidden things, because that (proof) is not there, and that (valid authority) itself does not have the cause of proof, and that cause...
