If someone says: Although bondage and liberation are not reasonable for the permanent self, bondage and liberation are reasonable for the "self" that can neither be said to be permanent nor impermanent. Then, for the "self" that cannot be said to be permanent or impermanent, as a subject, it is not possible to have bondage and liberation in any way, because the "self" is not the cause of the arising and ceasing of suffering. As a subject, the "self" should be permanent, because it is indestructible. Pervasion: Any dharma whose nature is indestructible, the wise call it permanent. People of the Vatsiputriya school, as a subject, abandon this shameful view of saying that the "self" is neither permanent nor impermanent, please say that the "self" is permanent, because the "self" is not impermanent. Fourth, in order to establish the antidote to the view of self, explaining the truth of the path, divided into two: Showing that realizing selflessness is the antidote; Establishing the reason for being the antidote. The first is divided into three: Showing that habituating selflessness obtains transformation of the basis; Refuting that obtaining transformation of the basis can also destroy what is to be abandoned; Refuting the establishment of not obtaining transformation of the basis. The first: The path of seeing selflessness that has already been explained in the previous explanation, as a subject, is the path that becomes the antidote to samsara, because when you complete the practice from habituation, the stream of consciousness of the practitioner, as the basis of faults, completely transforms, becoming the path of obtaining the transformation of the basis of abiding in the nature of realizing selflessness. The second is divided into three: Showing that there is no ability to destroy what is to be abandoned; Explaining in detail the establishment of no ability; Refuting the argument that the holding of the establishment is contradictory. The first: If the mind with faults can be transformed into faultlessness once, but the faults such as attachment to self and what belongs to self will still arise again in this mind, so there is no complete liberation from samsara, just like the path arises in the mind with faults. If someone says this, then, the mind transformed from the path of habituation, as a subject, the faults will not arise again, because there is no ability for the faults to arise again. The second is divided into four: The holding of what is to be abandoned and the antidote are contradictory, and the antidote truly enters into meaning; Because there is a difference between nature and suddenness, there was no ability before; Even if there is ability, one can effortlessly generate the antidote; The antidote with three differences cannot be prevented even with effort.

Why is there no ability? Because this mind that has been transformed by meditating on the path is the subject. You do not have the ability to generate faults such as self-grasping again, because in general, according to the Sautrāntika school, the Dharma or principle of unerringly apprehending an object is to apprehend the appearance of how the object exists, and that object itself, as it is, is also the cause of the arising of this consciousness. Like this, having an unerring object, you have the nature of apprehending the object, and from this, self-grasping, due to a sudden cause, will deviate from apprehending the principle of the object, and to eliminate it, it is necessary to rely on a valid cognition that can harm the cause itself. For example, instability in the mindstream arises from a sudden cause and is easily separated, like the illusion of a snake on a rope. Second, defilements are the subject. Because by familiarizing with the path, the mindstream is transformed into the nature of realizing selflessness, therefore, for such a mind, there is no ability to cause harm later, because even before seeing selflessness, the mind inherently had no ability to cause harm. The reason is established, because the nature of the mind is luminosity, and defilements are adventitious. This shows that formerly, when the nature was primordially pure, there was no inherent ability to harm, so later, when adventitiously free from defilements, there is no adventitious ability to harm. If it is explained as "formerly, just when seeing selflessness," then the meaning of the first two phrases is not brought out. Third, even if it is assumed that there is an ability to generate faults, then for the entity of the continuum of the mind that has been transformed, defilements do not have the ability to remain for a long time, because defilements have the essence of being able to generate the seeing of selflessness that harms defilements. Just as fire cannot remain for long on wet ground. This shows that during the stage of learning, even if the abandonment abandoned by worldly paths is lost, it can be quickly restored. Fourth, because all harms are completely pacified and have the characteristic of bliss, there is no harm, and because it has objects such as impermanence, it has entered into the correct meaning, and because familiarity has reached the ultimate, it is the nature of realizing selflessness.
