Me. (Regarding) past and body-detached hair, etc., the things I possess, even if seen as having merits, it is because you (attachment) are not present. If it is said that the cause of attachment to what I possess is the thought of what I possess, and it (the thought of what I possess) arises from seeing merits, therefore it is abandoned by meditating on suffering. Then, for the things I possess, the cause of arising the thought of what I possess, has the property. It is not solely because of seeing the merits of what I possess, because you (attachment) are also present for children, etc., therefore solely for that reason. Therefore, the person, has the property. Because seeing faults instead of merits in the eyes, etc., therefore the thought of what I possess on the eyes, etc., is also not abandoned, because the thought of what I possess also does not arise from seeing merits. The seventh is, furthermore, through the practice of meditating on what I possess as suffering, has the property. How does it harm the attachment to what I possess? It does not harm, because its cause—the attachment to me—is without harm. It pervades (everything), because the merits that are not present in what I possess are due to the attachment to the fabricated me (person), therefore also seeing the attachment to what I possess. Second, through knowing that the eyes and I (person) are different, it cannot be abandoned. The Samkhya says: Attachment does not arise from seeing merits, but if the object of attachment by nature and the person are held as one, then attachment arises for that object. If those are known as different, then it will become without attachment. Then, all ordinary beings, have the property. Becoming separated from attachment to the eyes, etc., because you (Samkhya) thereby know that I (person) is separated from the eyes, etc., because although he does not wish me (person) to become other, he seeks for his eyes, etc., to obtain other excellence, and because he himself has the thought of knowing that the eyes, etc., are arising and ceasing, although seeing me as permanent. Therefore, attachment, has the property. It is also not solely caused by seeing the object and the person as one, because even if knowing that the object and the person are different, you (attachment) are still present. Then, what is the cause of attachment to what I possess? The attachment to me, has the property. You (the attachment to me) are the cause of attachment to what I possess, because merely having you (the attachment to me) present, it can naturally arise attachment following the limb within the arising consciousness of the object—the things I possess such as the eyes. Third, not being able to abandon from arising aversion from suffering is divided into two, aversion and non-attachment.

This was explained. Refuting the fault of not having detachment. The first point is: if one sees the senses etc. as suffering, thereby generating aversion to them, and thus becoming detached from that object, then, a being with self-grasping, such as seeing suffering in some objects and generating aversion, such a phenomenon is associated with hatred, not detachment. Because even then there is attachment, because one seeks happiness at other times from suffering. Therefore, hatred with the characteristic of aversion remains only as long as there is suffering, because it is the cause of suffering, i.e., the result. If the suffering disappears, then it will rely again on its own nature, which is with attachment. The second point is: if one thinks that this will lead to the impossibility of detachment, then, for all objects that are lovely and unlovely, without like and dislike, a person with equanimity is called detachment, because he has abandoned the attachment of grasping and rejecting objects. To what extent of equanimity is called detachment? If one person respectfully anoints one side of the body with sandalwood, and another person cuts the body with an axe out of hatred, for these, without attachment and anger, remaining equal, then, you can be called detachment, because you are the model of abandoning grasping and rejecting. The fourth point is to refute the view that contradicts what is said to meditate on suffering: if meditating on the senses etc. as suffering, and aversion to suffering is not detachment, then, this contradicts what is said in the sutras to meditate on suffering. Bhagavan, you did not say to meditate on suffering considering the suffering of suffering, but considering pervasive suffering of conditioned existence, you said to meditate on suffering. Our pervasive suffering of conditioned existence is also only the contaminated aggregates arising from existence, which is the main factor mentioned in the context of Samudaya, not just the suffering of suffering. Here, the previous people explained that momentary phenomena, because they are born from causes and conditions, become the independence of the cause and are explained as suffering, which is not distinguishing the occasion of tenets. Because in the context of the Sutra School, even uncontaminated conditioned phenomena
