Because ignorance obscures, and because of seeing virtues, through the path of completely craving for my things, the clinging to "mine" becomes firm, because of taking the self as the accomplisher of happiness. The second (part) has three (parts): Showing that self-view is the root of faults; if self-view exists, there is no detachment; if there is no detachment, then one revolves in samsara. The first (part) is: self-view is the root of all faults, because if any person has self-grasping, then from that (self-grasping), towards others, with other thoughts, from the part of mine, clinging, that is, attachment, and from the other (part) arises hatred, and from these attachment and hatred and being completely related to them, all faults such as jealousy and miserliness will arise. The second (part) has two (parts): Self-view generates both attachment; there is no other way to abandon both. The first (part) is: that self-grasping person who wants to be detached from my things is the subject. Being inseparable from attachment to my things is the reason. Because it is definitely someone who is attached to the self. The reason is established, because that self-grasping person is the subject. There is also no cause for being separated from attachment to the self, is the reason. Because one grasps the self as the possessor of faultless virtues. The second (part) has two (parts): There is no other way to abandon attachment to the self; there is no other way to abandon attachment to my things. The first (part) has three (parts): Knowing faults cannot remove the object of clinging; knowing faults cannot repel the real cause; showing that there is a contradiction in the commitment to the fault itself. The first (part) is: If even if one thinks that I am faultless, one also thinks that attachment to me is faulty, then, what will happen from that thinking? Will attachment to me be abandoned? If you say so, then, that person who thinks that self-attachment is faulty is the subject. It is not possible to abandon attachment to me, is the reason. Because the object of clinging of this attachment to me, that is, the self, is not refuted, that is, because one thinks that I am the possessor of virtues. The pervasion is: Whatever is attachment to me arises from seeing my virtues, whatever object is related to seeing virtues is attachment, whatever object is related to seeing faults is hatred, similarly, abandoning jealousy and miserliness, etc., is because one has not seen those virtues and faults on the object, and not like abandoning external objects to be abandoned, like abandoning thorns.

Because of that. Secondly, for the self-grasping one who sees self-attachment as faulty, the subject is: by what means can the fruit of clinging to self be averted? It is impossible to avert it, because there exists the complete cause of clinging to self, which is holding the self as possessing qualities. Holding the self as possessing qualities is the cause of clinging to self, because clinging to self itself is not due to seeing it as a quality, but rather due to seeing the qualities of the self, one clings to the self. Thirdly, what faults are seen in clinging to self? If it is said that it is to be abandoned because it serves as a basis for suffering, then, regarding this clinging to self, the subject is: even if it serves as a basis for suffering, it should not be separated from attachment, because even though it serves as a basis for suffering, it is still seen as entirely mine. For example, even though the self is a basis for suffering, it is the cause of the mind that grasps at self, so it should not be separated from attachment. If it is said that the self cannot be established as faulty, because if there were no attachment to self and what belongs to self as companions, the self alone would not be the cause of suffering, then, then clinging to self and so on are also, the subject is: like that self, they should be without fault, because if the self has no companions, you alone are not the cause of suffering. If it is admitted as such, then neither clinging to self nor the self should be separated from attachment, because both are without fault. The second part has four points: one cannot abandon by meditating on suffering, etc.; one cannot abandon by knowing that the aggregates and the self are different; one cannot abandon by becoming disillusioned with suffering; and refuting the contradiction of what is said to be meditated on as suffering. The first part has two points: stating the opponent's view, and explaining the refutation. The first point: if, like a limb seized by a snake is abandoned by meditating on it as a cause of suffering, even if there is self-grasping, one can abandon by meditating on clinging to self and what belongs to self as causes of suffering, therefore, the pervasion that there is necessarily clinging to self is not established. The second part has two points: refuting the example, and refuting the meaning. The first point: this limb seized by a snake, the subject is: you are not abandoned merely by meditating on it as suffering, but because you are abandoned by destroying the mind that belongs to me,
