Now, the nature of self-view, and the faults arising from it, such as attachment, are established as being in opposition to all things, therefore it is the antidote to them. Because you and the grasping of self-view are actually contradictory in the way they are held, and because you enter into the situation of the object. The third is, faults and other phenomena, the subject, even if the antidote is practiced, it will not be exhausted, because it is the nature of sentient beings. Just as the color of colored objects and the warmth of fire are inexhaustible, if you say so, faults and other phenomena, the subject, by reason of being the nature of your mind, it is not the case that it is inexhaustible, because you are not the nature of the mind. Because when the antidote of realizing selflessness is connected with the mind stream, you also see the causes that make (faults) revert. If, like gold and other things that are melted by fire, the part where the fire has gone out becomes hard again, even if faults are abandoned once, they will revert when separated from the antidote, if you say so, the mind stream where faults are completely stopped by practicing selflessness, the subject, like the hardness of gold, because there is no rebirth of faults when separated from the antidote. Because the antidote of realizing selflessness has become its own nature, therefore it will not be separated from the antidote. And even if separated from fire, ashes will not turn into wood, if separated from the antidote, it is not certain that its abandonment will revert. Second, there are three reasons for establishing it as an antidote: showing that realizing selflessness is the antidote to self-view, showing that realizing selflessness is the antidote to craving, and apart from that, there is no other antidote of karma and body. The first has three: showing that self-view is the root of samsara, establishing the reason for being the root, therefore advising to uproot the root. The first is, why does realizing selflessness become the antidote to samsara? Because the root of samsara is self-view, and because it is actually contradictory to the way it is held. Why is it the root? Self-view is established as the root of samsara, because any person, if he clings to the aggregates as self, then he will always cling to and be attached to that self, and as long as there is obvious attachment to the self, then the one who has self-attachment will become samsara. Because from clinging to the self, craving for happiness will arise, because from craving, the protection of things that are mine etc. will arise.
