It is because of following the habit of doing so. The fifth part has three points: refuting the extreme of body and mind being one; establishing wrong desire as prior by the sign of one's own continuum; refuting the absence of before and after merely by not seeing. The first point is: Since it has already been refuted that consciousness is the result of the body, then refuting that it is the ability or merit of the body, i.e., the body is the subject. For example, just as, relying on the previous consciousness, for the consciousness engaged in hearing and crafts, etc., at some time, the merits of hearing, etc., become clear, similarly, you should also have the merits of hearing, etc., become clear. Because you are not different from the consciousness in which those merits are clear. The second point is: Ordinary sentient beings are the subject, wishing to obtain happiness and wishing to abandon suffering through having attachment to self is prior, because they are not forcibly bound by others such as Ishvara, but completely accept places such as inferior ones. This is pervasive, because the inverted mind that grasps suffering as happiness, and the craving that binds to birth, are the cause of rebirth. Because whoever does not have these two wrong desires, then he will not be reborn. The third point is: If it is said that sentient beings are the subject, there is no before and after life, because one does not see going to the next life and coming from the previous life. Then, not seeing by all people is not established. If you propose that you yourself have not seen, then the materialist is the subject, merely because you have not seen, you cannot establish that sentient beings do not come and go. Because your senses are not clear, therefore you do not see the birth of sentient beings, but it is not that you do not see because it does not exist. For example, just as a person with unclear eyes cannot see even if there is a small smoke. If it is said that the sentient being taking birth is the subject, it should not enter the place of birth without obstruction, because it has a body. Then, some sentient beings can enter some beings with bodies without obstruction, because although the intermediate state body has a body, it is a subtle and clear body, therefore it can enter the womb, etc., without obstruction. For example, like water into a new pottery, and mercury into refined and tamed gold. If it is said that entering the womb is also unreasonable, because it is not seen.

Question: Why is that? Answer: O Lokayata, it is not because you have not seen it that there is no entry into the womb, but because your senses are unclear, it has already been said that you have not seen the entry into the womb. Sixth, there are two: A single entity with limbs is not suitable as a cause. A body with many limbs is also not suitable as a cause. First, there are three: Refuting a single entity with limbs. Avoiding extreme consequences for that. Explaining the refutation of other positions. First: If it is the immediate cause of body and mind, then is it a gross, single-entity body, or a body of many atoms? If it is the former, then all parts of the body other than the hand are the subject. If any one of the hand etc. moves, then you will move, because you and any one of the hand etc. are indivisible entities. The pervasion is established, because actions that are contradictory, such as moving and not moving, are not permissible for a single indivisible entity. If you say that when the hand moves, it is the limb that moves, but not the limbed one, then the limbed one is the subject. It will follow that it is made up of entities other than the limb, because when the limb moves, the other does not move. Also, all parts of the body other than the head are the subject. If one like the head is covered with cloth, then you will be covered, or if one is not covered with cloth, then you will be seen not covered with cloth, because you and the head are indivisible entities. Also, all parts of the body other than the face are the subject. If one like the face is changed with paint, then you will be changed with paint, or if one is not changed, then you will be recognized as not changed, because you and the face are indivisible entities. Therefore, that body, which is an aggregate of many atoms, is the subject. It is the many atoms themselves, but it does not exist as a single entity, because it has many parts such as moving and not moving. Second, there are two: Stating the extreme consequences. Explaining the refutation of that. First: The Vaisheshika says that the body and the pot etc., which are entities with limbs, do not exist as a single entity, but exist as the many atoms themselves. Even so, the body and the pot etc. are the subject. It is not reasonable to be cognized by sense consciousness, and to have the ability to obstruct and hinder, because it is no different from the previous atoms that are beyond the object of sense consciousness and cannot obstruct and hinder, and later it is also the same as before.
