In terms of the logic of refutation, the subject is: the basis and the based are not different, they are in accordance with aggregation, and the cause of having accordance with aggregation, such as me and the species of cows, and so on, the mind that abides on the earth, and the white color that abides on the woolen cloth, etc., the thought of abiding without being destroyed by means of the basis is also refuted, because it shows that there is no basis for abiding without being destroyed. Fourth: If the thing is destroyed by other causes of destruction, then the thing is the subject, what did its cause of abiding without destruction do to it or not do? Because even if there is a basis, it will be destroyed by the cause of destruction. If the thing does not have other causes of destruction, but is destroyed by its own nature, then the thing is the subject, for the cause of abiding without destruction, you do not have the ability to make it not destroyed, because you are destroyed by your own nature. In addition, all things are the subject, and they will not be destroyed at some time, because all those who have the basis of abiding without destruction have the abiding without destruction, and you who are born are all the basis of abiding without destruction. In addition, do all things destroy themselves or not destroy themselves? If it is the former, then the thing is the subject, what other basis is there to make it abide without destruction? No, because if it is the nature of self-destruction. If it is the latter, then the thing is the subject, what other basis is needed to make it abide without destruction? No need, because if it is not the nature of self-destruction, but the reason for abiding without destruction. The fourth has four: establishing the reason for preventing other causes, establishing the inverse pervasion on dissimilar examples, refuting the saying that the reason is not established, summarizing and showing the proof of self-cause. First: Wisdom and compassion, etc. are the subject, not born from the proximate cause of the body, because they do not directly depend on the excellence and decay of the body, but become excellent and decay due to the difference of the increase and decrease of wisdom. Second: If you say that there is no pervasion, then for things such as lamp flames that depend on external proximate causes, the subject is: their own proximate causes do not increase or decrease.

Therefore, the notion that consciousness changes with the increase and decrease of wisdom is untenable, because the change in consciousness does not depend on the increase and decrease of wisdom, but rather on the increase and decrease of its own immediate cause. Third, the fundamental reason is not established, because the strength and decline of the body lead to the clarity or obscurity of wisdom. If it is said that the strength and decline of the body cause changes in wisdom and so on, this is the subject. The strength and decline of the body do not directly affect wisdom, because if the strength and decline of the body do not affect the mental consciousness, they will not affect wisdom, so the body affects wisdom indirectly. Furthermore, if it is said that attachment and aversion arise from the strength and decline of the body, therefore the fundamental reason is not established. For incorrect attention and certain combinations, attachment and aversion, etc., increase with the growth of the body, etc., and the decline, this is also the subject. This is not directly produced by the strength and decline of the body, but by the consciousness arising from the pleasant and unpleasant feelings produced by the strength and decline of the body. And the pleasant and unpleasant feelings come from the balance or imbalance of the elements (Sanskrit: dhātu) caused by the strength and decline of the body, and the difference in internal tactile sensations, and the collection of bodily senses produces the cycle of bodily consciousness. By revealing that attachment and so on do not arise directly from the body, this shows that memory loss and delusion, etc., due to dependence on aggregative diseases and alcohol, etc., are also not directly produced from alcohol, etc. Because alcohol, etc., produce differences in internal tactile sensations, and the sensory consciousness arising from this changes the mind, thereby showing that these are produced indirectly. Indirectly influencing but not being the immediate cause, for example, certain cows with special lineages hear the sound of "a tiger is coming," or see the blood of others stabbed with weapons, etc., will sequentially produce mental confusion and fear, etc., although these are produced indirectly, they are not the immediate cause of these. Fourth, because the body is not the direct cause of the mind, therefore consciousness is the subject. Consciousness depends on the previous moment of consciousness, because if there is no previous moment of consciousness, it will not arise, because it is necessarily the previous moment of consciousness.
