There are three cases: using existence to prove the impermanence of sound. Therefore, the previously stated reasoning is established. From this, the permanent ability is negated. The first case has two aspects: establishing the root reason that includes pervasiveness and establishment; refuting the debate on what includes pervasiveness and establishment. The first case is: if there is no similar example to establish that sound is permanent, then how is it established that it is impermanent? Sound is the subject, it is momentary and impermanent, because it exists. If it is not pervasive, then destruction is the subject, it is merely an existing thing, and it is inherently related, because it arises from the cause of the thing, and later does not depend on other causes, but arises from the cause of the thing itself. In the debate, it has already been said that things should be established. The second case is: the Lokayatas and others say that they do not accept that the thing itself is destroyed, but they think that the destruction of wood and pots, etc., is the destruction of the thing, and this depends on causes such as fire and hammers. Therefore, destruction that does not depend on others is not established. To refute this, there are two cases: refuting that the reason that includes pervasiveness and establishment is not established; refuting the uncertainty of the root reason. The first case has two aspects: refuting that destruction arises from a cause; refuting the excessive consequences of this. The first case has three aspects: refuting that destruction produces other things; refuting that destruction produces itself; refuting that destruction produces the three skandhas. The first case is: if fire produces the destruction of wood, then does it produce something that has become something other than wood, or does it produce the same thing? If it is the former, then wood is the subject, and it should still be visible even after it has been burned by fire, because after it has been burned by fire, you have no destruction, that is, no annihilation, because when fire burns, the destruction of things that have become other than you is only produced from fire. If you say that there is no fault, because that other destruction is the destruction of this wood, then that destruction produced from fire is the subject, how can it become the destruction of other wood? It will not become, because it is something other than wood. Furthermore, even if we allow that other destruction to be the destruction of wood, why does the wood not appear when it exists? If asked this question, the answer is: the wood does not appear, because that other destruction occupies the wood, that is, possesses the wood. Then that other destruction is the subject, it is merely the obscuration of the wood, because it is something other than wood.
