Or, there are also objects of experience that are completely excluded by the two types of valid cognition, such as perceiving consciousness as hidden and sound as permanent. Or, like asserting that sin is the result of affliction and then saying that sins can be cleansed by bathing, these contradict inference that relies on scripture, and therefore need to be refuted. The Vedas are Dharma, having the nature of contradicting the three valid cognitions, not completely excluded, because the debate contradicting this has not been answered. Third, if seeing one part of a word as true means that all the remaining words are valid cognition, i.e., established as true, then what is not valid, i.e., not true, in this word spoken much by a person? There is no such thing. Because it is not possible for you to not have one true meaning, i.e., it is possible that one part is true. Fourth, therefore, there are two kinds of errors in merely scripture in the meaning to be expressed: merely scripture is not related to the meaning; therefore, the meaning to be expressed cannot be determined. The first case is: this sound, having the nature that its object of expression and self-nature are integrally related or not its result, because even without its object of expression, it exists in the speaker's mind, i.e., it arises merely from the intention to express. Therefore, the expressing sound, you cannot establish from it that there exists your object of expression, because neither of the two relations between you and your object of expression is established. This is universal, even if completely separated from the relation of self-nature and arising from it, it is not possible to not have error in the object to be proven. If the expressing sound is not the result of the expressed meaning, this view is not established, because the expressing sound enters the meaning through the expressed object, because from the expressed object arises the direct perception of seeing it, from the direct perception arises the intention to express, from the intention to express arises the word, therefore the expressed object produces through mediation. If you say so, then for one pot, how can the sound that expresses both contradictory meanings of permanent and impermanent enter? It cannot enter. Because the two self-natures of permanent and impermanent do not exist. The second case is: words and meanings are not related, therefore scripture, from the point of view of taking scripture as evidence, can the meaning it expresses be determined by valid cognition? It cannot be determined. Scripture and

Because the objects of my discourse, for those who wish to understand the objects of discourse from the scriptures, the relationship of non-arising without existence will not be established if they do not exist in the realm of some valid cognitions (प्रमाण, pramāṇa, valid cognition). Therefore, scripture, as a subject, because you are a valid cognition, you will not be established without the object of the intended meaning, even if you are mistaken, because you are not a valid cognition. Therefore, mundane valid cognition, as a subject, because you cannot establish the result of necessarily lacking the intended meaning, it is not established. If the intended meaning exists, then you cannot pervasively establish it, therefore it is so. Fifth, revealing self-contradiction and condemning the speaker is: a foolish rationalist, as a subject, possesses five characteristics of corrupted wisdom, namely: considering the Vedas, which reveal various self-contradictions, as valid cognitions, saying that the eternal Purusha (पुरुष, puruṣa, person) is the agent, believing that bathing the body can eliminate the sins of the mind, being arrogant because of caste and claiming to be a Brahmin even without qualities such as wisdom and discipline, and inflicting suffering on the body by serving five people to destroy sins, because it possesses these five characteristics. The third is, in the commentary in verse form on the Pramāṇavārttika, "Rays of Samantabhadra," the explanation of inference for oneself, that is, the explanation of the first chapter. Virtuous! Virtuous! Virtuous! Extensive explanation of fallacious reasoning.
