It should follow that, because you exist in the absence of your own cause. If you admit, then smoke, as the subject of the proposition, should become either constantly existent or non-existent, rather than sometimes existent, because it does not depend on other conditions, because it is without a cause. The former has pervasion, because whatever things occur sometimes, they arise from dependence on conditions. The second case is: If Indra's head is of the nature of having fire, or not? If it is, then smoke should not arise from Indra's head without fire, because Indra's head itself is fire. If according to the latter, then how can smoke arise from Indra's head? It should not arise, because Indra's head is not of the nature of fire. This is pervasive, because only fire with the nature of the cause of smoke has the ability to produce smoke, while fire without it does not. Furthermore, smoke, as the subject of the proposition, should become without a cause, because it is smoke arising from something that is not the cause of smoke. The third case is: The nature of smoke, as the subject of the proposition, should not arise from Indra's head, which is not of the same kind as fire, because that is the cause of fire, that is, the fruit, because you see that which follows and ceases with fire. This verse is a summary verse. The second (part) has three: establishing the relationship of the object to be ascertained as self-identical, explaining the distinction between the basis of ascertainment and the sign, and explaining the independent reason for ascertainment. The first (part) has two: establishing that non-existence implies non-arising, and refuting the non-difference between the subject and the sign. The first (part): If it is said that the relationship of that arising is established on the cause of the effect-sign, then how does non-existence imply non-arising exist on the nature-sign? Although it has been said before that nature is related only by existence. However, some argue that it is too extreme to turn one aspect of the proposition into a sign. Therefore, in order to eliminate this, they intend to explain the texts that show the aspect of excluding others. Just as proving that sound is impermanent by repetition, for the nature-sign, the relationship of non-existence implying non-arising is also established, because the existence of the sign itself is inherently related to the dharma to be proven.
