It contradicts the previous explanation. Its meaning is that, in order to refute the pervasion, if (the pervasion) is not established, doubted, or the basis is not established for both the proponent and opponent or either one, just like the basis being a fault, for the case where the establishment of the subject-property is taken as the basis, except for the non-establishment of the basis in the counter-pervasion, not being established in either the forward or counter pervasion, etc., are faults. If someone asks: Since that is the case, why didn't (the previous explanation) say that doubting the counter-pervasion is a fault? This is because (the previous explanation) mentioned "depending on the circumstances." Answer: It is not that (the previous explanation) didn't say that doubting the counter-pervasion is a fault, but rather that it didn't say that the non-establishment of the basis is a fault. Because immediately following that, it says that whatever statement is certain for both, that is the real establishment or refutation, and not a statement that is established or doubted for either one. Because (the scripture) says so. Otherwise, it would become saying contradictory things. The fifth example is that, when proving whether sound is permanent or impermanent, taking the non-common characteristic of the object of debate, "audibility," as the subject, it follows that "being contrary to both permanent and impermanent is established," because it is merely not seeing these two. If you admit it, then this subject will become a reason that can distinguish whether sound is permanent or impermanent, because no matter whether sound is set as a proof for permanent or impermanent, it possesses the subject-property and counter-pervasion. If you admit it, then (this) contradicts what Master Vasubandhu said, "Audibility itself will become a distinguishing reason in any case." If someone says that it cannot prevent the two for that (sound), because if it prevents the two for that (sound), then since another valid cognition prevents one contradiction on the same basis, the valid cognition that the other must be established will cause harm, therefore it does not possess an object without harm. Answer: If that is the case, then merely not seeing (the property) on the dissimilar side cannot establish it as necessarily non-existent, because just as preventing both permanent and impermanent on audible sound is harmed by another valid cognition, other reasons merely not seeing (the property) on the dissimilar side may also be harmed by another valid cognition when establishing it as necessarily non-existent. The sixth example is that the Vaisheshikas believe that neutral touch is a quality of wind alone, therefore wanting to prove, taking the visible earth, water, and fire as the subject, "not possessing neutral touch, because neutral touch is not seen." This reason, for the subject, the counter-pervasion is without error, because dissimilar

Because it is merely unseen. If you think so, the teacher says in "Distinction of Wind": If merely not seeing obstructs the touching of visible things, that is also unreasonable. This contradicts the above statement. Second, if merely not seeing can establish non-existence, then the mangoes with special taste and energy, and the remaining mangoes with similar shapes, as subjects, have special taste and energy, because they are mangoes. When stated in this way, the mango as the subject, the reverse pervasion of its establishment is complete. If it is thought that it is merely unseen in the non-concordant side of its establishment, then the reason for its establishment becomes a correct reason. Because the dharma and reverse pervasion of its establishment are complete. It cannot be thought so, because due to the differences in the goodness or badness of the place, and doing well, etc., the substance of the mango appears different in terms of energy and taste, etc., therefore, seeing that one mango has a special taste and energy, it is not reasonable to determine that other mangoes also have that special taste and energy. Third, is whatever is not observed in the dissimilar side of the sign itself the establisher of the absence of the reason in the dissimilar side, or not? Because in general, not observing that dharma does not completely establish that that dharma does not exist. The sign is admitted, because the Vaisheshika school believes that there is a self in the living body, the Lokayata school believes that there is consciousness in the earth, and the Samkhya school, which includes the collection of etc., believes that the result is present in the cause even though it is not observed. There are four aspects to the third: If there is a connection, the reverse is established. If there is no connection, there is no following or reversing. The way the connection is shown in the example. Through that way, the pervasion of the refutation sign is established. First, merely not seeing does not establish the reverse, therefore, the essence of what is to be taken as the sign, is merely existing, and the essence of the sign that is inherently related, merely becomes the opposite of the dharma to be established, and the essence of the sign will be reversed, just as the impermanence inherently related to being made reverses, and being made also reverses. Moreover, it is to guide the latter, the opposite of the dharma to be established, which is the cause to be taken as the sign, then the reason for the result will also be reversed, because the result's following and reversing of the cause is not confused. For example, when the fire that is the cause of smoke reverses, the smoke of the result also reverses.
