作为原因的事物,如石头等,不依赖于符号,而是由自身区分不同的心识,即使在树木符号之前也会产生,因为存在着将沙巴等理解为同一类的心识,所以显现的事物形态,如同成为该心识之因的外在树木一般显现。不是该心识之因的事物,则显现为如同脱离了非树木的自性一般。外在的树木也显现为自性相同,并且由于执着,自身的沙巴等与非树木不同,在某种程度上是可以理解的。之后,为了认识到与非树木不同,将显现的排除他者与“这是树木”的符号语言结合起来,像这样结合起来的声音,即使在名言的时期,也会显现出心识中显现的排除他者,从而被认识到。那个时候的心识,也因为对外境的错乱显现,而将先前和之后的事物理解为同一事物,因此没有总相,即使符号时期的意义消失,也不会出现名言时期不理解意义的过失。第四,作为能诠的声音是法,为了使听者的具有怀疑的心识从唯一的意义中解脱出来,而进入到确定的某些意义中,所以要善加结合。这是为了使听者确定地把握所希望的意义。第二,驳斥没有可断绝的事物就没有排除的说法,如果树木等声音通过排除而进入,那么知识等声音就不应通过排除而进入,因为没有可排除的非知识,如果将其作为心识的对境,则会成为知识,如果不这样做,则无法排除它。如果说一切法都是知识等等,那么这些词语是在与其他词语相关的名言中使用的,对于认识者来说,存在着一些断除听者怀疑之处,任何作为意义表达的语言,如果听者不从断除怀疑之处以外的地方断除,那么作为意义表达的结合就会变得没有意义,因此是这样的。第三,驳斥对反体在事物中存在与否进行考察的观点,有五点:反体可以被表达的方式;对此设立经论的论证;

As the cause, things like stones, etc., do not depend on symbols, but the mind that distinguishes differences by itself arises even before the symbol of a tree, because there is the mind that understands shaba etc. as the same kind, so the appearance of things appears like the external tree that has become the cause of that mind. Things that are not the cause of that mind appear as if they are separated from the nature of non-trees. External trees also appear to be of the same nature, and because of attachment, one's own shaba etc. are different from non-trees, and can be understood to some extent. Afterwards, in order to recognize the difference from non-trees, the exclusion of others that appears is combined with the symbolic language of "this is a tree", and the sound combined in this way, even in the period of expression, will appear as the exclusion of others that appears in the mind, and thus be recognized. The mind at that time also understands the previous and subsequent things as the same thing because of the confused appearance of external objects, so there is no generality, and even if the meaning of the symbolic period disappears, there will be no fault of not understanding the meaning in the period of expression. Fourth, the expressing sound is the Dharma, in order to liberate the listener's doubtful mind from the only meaning and enter into certain meanings, so it should be well combined. This is to make the listener firmly grasp the desired meaning. Second, refuting the statement that there is no exclusion without something to be cut off, if the sounds of trees etc. enter through exclusion, then the sounds of knowledge etc. should not enter through exclusion, because there is no non-knowledge to be excluded, if it is taken as the object of mind, it will become knowledge, and if it is not done, it cannot be excluded. If it is said that all dharmas are knowledge etc., then these words are used in expressions related to other words, and for those who understand, there are some places to cut off the listener's doubts, any language used as an expression of meaning, if the listener does not cut off from places other than cutting off doubts, then the combination as an expression of meaning will become meaningless, so it is like this. Third, refuting the view of examining whether opposites exist in things, there are five points: the way in which opposites can be expressed; establishing scriptural arguments for this;

Arguments about the meaning of "non-existence" should be avoided. Therefore, negation is not a real entity. Abandoning the subsequent sound-sign is meaningless. The first point is: If the negation you desire is established as a real entity, then there is the same fault as asserting that universals are real entities; if it is not a real entity, then stating it becomes unnecessary and ineffective. If you say that, then, for those characteristics of trees that are different from non-trees, such as bark, etc., the common reason that appears similar, the appearance of the form of a tree, the one who clings to the external tree, and applies the name "tree" to it, has a reason. It is necessary because the meaning-seeker is to distinguish which tree is different from which non-tree, thereby entering the tree by negating the non-tree. The second point is that the appearance of the tree-grasping concept, clinging to the external tree, is itself the negation of the tree, so it itself is the direct object of expression of the word "tree," which has been thoroughly explained in the Sutra of Valid Cognition. In the Sutra of Valid Cognition, it says, "Through negation from others, some parts of that object are understood," and "Sounds only express those objects that are distinguished by negation from others," and "Sounds both eliminate the others of sound and meaning and express their own meaning." The meaning of the first quote is that from the word "tree," the real part of the tree, the appearance of the tree-grasping concept, is understood. If you ask why the appearance is placed in the real part of the tree, the answer is: Because it is placed through negation from non-trees. The meaning of the second quote is: Through the word "tree," the real entity of the tree that appears in the concept, distinguished by eliminating others, is expressed, which is the same as the meaning of "these meanings that exist in knowledge." The meaning of the third quote will appear in the context of the text. The third point is to avoid arguing about the meaning of the first quote: For this appearance that appears in the concept, also the subject, it does not have even a little of the essence of a tree, because it is a substance of knowledge. To avoid arguing about the meaning of the second quote: If it is said that the object distinguished by negation is expressed, then it is the same as considering the universal to be the object of sound. If you say that, then the meaning of "the object distinguished by negation" is that from the words such as tree, etc., merely by understanding the image of the tree that appears in the concept, the negation from non-trees will be understood, because the image itself is the clinging to the tree.
