This is to refute the similar fault stated by the Vaiśeṣika school, which intends to state, because there is no difference in meaning between repetition. There is pervasion, namely, genus, which is the general characteristic, and those that possess it are distinct substances. If one wishes to apply words to particulars through the aspect of another generality, then these three faults will occur. What are the three? Sound, the subject, is not freely applicable to clarity, because it applies to clarity after stating another generality. The distinctions present in clarity will not become a common basis, because the distinctions present in the clarity of sound have not been abandoned. Sound, the subject, its application to clarity also becomes imputed, because of stating another generality. These are what Dignāga stated. The third part has three points: showing that the fault falls on others, showing that one does not have that fault, and clearly explaining how the fault falls on others. The first point is that the Vaiśeṣikas say that if dharma and dharmin are not different, then the distinctions of the sixth case and plural words, etc., would be unreasonable. According to the view of the Vaiśeṣikas and grammarians, the sixth case and plural words, etc., are stated through the aspect of distinct objects, and do not rely on the intention to mainly state. For those people, the subject, the sixth case and the classification of words, i.e., plural words, etc., such as "the nature of a cow is the cow itself," those words would not apply, because there is no difference in meaning. This is a similar accusation. The second point is that, according to our view, any word that is the sixth case and plural words, etc., the subject, can also apply even if there is no difference in meaning, because without relying on the difference of external meaning, how does the speaker, i.e., the expresser, determine what is the expression of difference and non-difference in meaning? The expresser is likewise the expresser of difference and non-difference in meaning. The third point is that if it is thought that the application of singular and plural words is all caused by one or many things, then for one woman and one grain of sand, the subject, plural words such as "the consorts" and "the sands" would not apply, because there is no cause for difference that has been established as different. Also, six villages, the subject, the singular word "row of mansions" does not apply, because

If a non-conditioned phenomenon is posited as one, then what exists as the cause of one, such that it does not exist? Or, the following is a refutation: Space, as a dharma, is called "the nature of space" as the sixth, and "the essence of space is space itself," the word "of" should not be applied. Because, for the cause and meaning of these words, what difference is there? There is no difference. Second, there are four ways in which words that gather different things into one are used by eliminating conceptualizations: appearing as one in different things and giving the name of a general class; denying that the named thing is established in meaning; therefore, revealing that the conceptualization that holds the general is mistaken; explaining the cause of the lineage of that mistake. The first case is from the auto-commentary: Now, how are things that have a single, different nature called general? Because they are unrelated, and also because they do not exist. What the general is like has already been said. Unmixed things refer to each other, and unrelated things are the similarity of those that are the opposite of that. It also says "other," etc., the meaning of which is that some say that the general is of two types: existing in things and existing in consciousness. The first refers to all pots being different from non-pots, because they pervade all pots, so it is called general. The second refers to the fact that in conceptualization, all pots appear in different forms, but are held as one, because they mix similar things together. Therefore, it is unreasonable to think that the former has already been explained and the latter is shown here. Because the similar general that pervades all pots, which was said before, does not refer to the general that distinguishes the many opposites of one pot. Moreover, both of the generals that you think of will be explained in the same way with "depending on different things," etc. Some say that the general is separated from other things, and the general of things that are the opposite of different kinds and unrelated things, therefore, only with its own characteristics, it is approximated with other names as the general, such as "similar things depend on things of other things." Others say that in the part that is separated from different kinds, the part that exists in each is called the general, which is also unreasonable. If the general that was said before is naming the self-characteristic of things with the name of the general, then,
