The subject, this thing (de chos can), should not become a valid means of establishing the meaning of others, because from you, some of the opponent's previous views will not be established, and you have no obstruction to refutation. Secondly, if existence with characteristics such as permanence is taken as the object to be established on the subject, then such a difference, this thing (de chos can), cannot be established by reason on some bases, because the reason for establishing it will become one that does not follow any example of a subject. If it is not necessary to establish only existence, then if existence is taken as the object to be established, then existence must be distinguished by permanence, oneness, etc., and such distinction cannot be established on any subject, so it is unreasonable to establish existence on the subject. Secondly, if it is the same for the reason for establishment, if it is not taking the existence of sound, etc. as the reason, but only the thing itself is used as the means of establishing the impermanence of sound, then the thing itself, this thing (de chos can), can become a valid means of establishing the impermanence of sound, because the property of the subject for establishing it has been established, and in its own homogeneous example, the pervasion of its own object of establishment, the law of impermanence, is not lacking. Thirdly, existence on things, this thing (de chos can), how can it become an object to be established by reason on the subject, it should not become, because in order to establish you on the subject, neither the law of existence nor the law of non-existence can become a reason. Thus, the subject's own characteristic, for the law of existence such as being able to function, should not become a pervasive law, because the existence of the subject's own characteristic itself has not been established. The law that depends on both existence and non-existence, knowable, this thing (de chos can), is not a valid reason for establishing the subject's own characteristic as existing on things, because the pervasion you establish for it is wrong. The law of non-existence, such as not being able to function, this thing (de chos can), is the same fault, because it contradicts existence on things. Fourth, existence cannot be a reason, if the law of existence is established, there is no knowledge or desire, if both are established, the pervasion is wrong, if the law of non-existence is established, then...

If it is because of the contradictory pervasiveness. If the nature of an existent thing is established as pervaded by the dharma to be proven, then it is a knower; and from the existent thing, like impermanence, which is determined as the pervader, the mind also determines it as such, then that is the dharma to be known; if it is not so determined, the existent dharma, etc., is not the dharma to be proven, because the sign of uncertain pervasiveness cannot establish the to-be-proven. Therefore, if the reason-dharma is determined as the pervader and the pervaded, then if this dharma reverses, that reason will necessarily reverse. For example, if it is determined through subsequent speech that impermanence itself pervades the made, then if it is permanent, then the unmade will necessarily pervade, or through the opposite language, if the unmade pervades the non-destruction, then if it is made, then impermanence will necessarily pervade. The meaning of this treatise is that it seems to say that "existence" is taken as an example of the establisher that establishes sound as impermanent, just like "the establisher that establishes sound as impermanent," so it is clear that it is a continuation of the previous meaning. In the Pramāṇaviniścaya, immediately after "destruction is like effect and existence," it says "because there is no cause, therefore it is destruction," etc., and because this treatise did not appear in between, it is also established. Here, saying that "existence" is the reason is according to the meaning of the Indian word for "existence" and "thing" being the same. But in Tibet, whether it is the exclusion of others' "existence" or the "existence" in meaning, the term "existence" is spoken of in all the great treatises, so the "existence" that establishes impermanence should be understood as the thing itself. Third, explaining the reason that determines without depending on others, there are two: showing the reasoning on the similar example, and applying that reasoning to others. The first has three parts: establishing the reason, establishing the dharma of the subject, and summarizing the established meaning. The first is: If the nature of the sign, the valid reason, establishes the relationship of the self-related entity of the dharma to be proven, then it is the previously mentioned made reason, so how is the dharma to be proven, impermanence, self-related? First, establishing on the similar example, for example, the pot, its own destruction is its own nature, that is, it is self-related and follows, because from its own substantial cause, without relying on other causes, its own destruction arises from its own substantial cause.
