An example of something like sound being permanent, which is an object refuted by two types of direct perception (प्रत्यक्ष,pratyakṣa, direct cognition), or, like asserting that sins are the result of afflictions and then stating that bathing washes away sins, which contradicts inference relying on scripture, is stated because it is being expressed. The Vedas are the subject, not completely refuted as contradicting the three valid cognitions, because no response has been given to the debate contradicting it. Third, if seeing one part of a word as true establishes all the remaining words as valid cognitions, i.e., true, then what is not a valid cognition, i.e., untrue, in this word spoken extensively by a person? There is nothing untrue, because you do not have one true meaning, i.e., one part may be true. Fourth, therefore, merely scripture is mistaken about the meaning to be expressed in two ways: merely scripture has no connection with meaning; therefore, the meaning to be expressed cannot be determined. The first is: this sound is the subject, not connected in essence with the object of expression it adheres to, or its result, because even without the object of expression it adheres to, it exists in the speaker, i.e., it arises merely from the desire to express. Therefore, the expressing sound is the subject, it cannot be established from you that there exists an object of expression it adheres to, because neither of the two connections between you and the object of expression it adheres to is established. This is pervasive, because even if completely reversed from this relationship of one entity and arising from it, there is no non-deceptive object to be established. If it is not established that the expressing sound is not the result of the expressed meaning, because the expressing sounds enter into meaning because they arise through transmission from the expressed meaning, i.e., from the expressed meaning arises the direct perception of seeing it, from that arises the desire to express, from that arises the word, therefore the expressed meaning causes it to arise through transmission, if you say so, then, one pot is the subject, for the sound expressing both permanent and impermanent, meanings that contradict each other, how will that enter? It will not enter, because it is not the nature of both permanent and impermanent. The second is: because words and meanings are not connected, therefore scripture is the subject, from stating that scripture as a reason, the meaning of what it expresses is determined by valid cognition, i.e., it is not, because scripture and the things it expresses are scripture.

Because those who wish to understand what is being said have several kinds of valid cognition, if they are not in the object, then the relationship that does not arise will not be established. Therefore, the scriptures, because you are a valid cognition, even if you are inverted, it will not be established without the deserved object, because you are not a valid cognition. Therefore, the mundane valid cognition, because you do not see the fruit of definitely having no deserved object, it is not established. If the deserved object exists, you do not see it, so it is like that. Fifth, pointing out internal contradictions and condemning the speaker: the foolish rationalist dharma, has the characteristic of having five fruits of corrupted wisdom, namely, considering the Vedas that show various internal contradictions as valid cognition, and saying that the eternal Purusha creates actions, believing that bathing can eliminate the sins of the mind, and even without the merits of wisdom and discipline, considering oneself a Brahmin because of caste, and serving five people in order to eliminate sins, etc., because it has five kinds of actions that create suffering on the body. The third is, in the verses of the Commentary on Valid Cognition, the "Rays of Samantabhadra," the inference for one's own benefit, that is, the explanation of the first chapter. Good! Good! Good! Explaining one's own doctrine.
