Firstly, if there exists a single, universal principal that uses multiple factors such as water and fertilizer to produce a single fruit or sprout, then, sprout, as the subject of the proposition, the co-operative causes such as water and fertilizer would become meaningless in your production, because the seed itself is also capable of producing you, because that universal principal exists. Establishing this argument is, seed, as the subject of the proposition, should always be able to produce sprouts, because the undifferentiated essence capable of actually producing sprouts does not depart from that universal principal, but is its nature. In particular, the co-operative causes, as the subject of the proposition, are not absolutely necessary for the production of sprouts, because they co-exist with the principal that has become the nature of the seed, without necessity. Secondly, if it is admitted that the aforementioned co-operative causes become meaningless, then, the fruits and sprouts, as the subject of the proposition, arise from various specific conditions, because when the conditions are assembled, they arise even without the universal principal, and when any one of those conditions is missing, they do not arise. Therefore, fruits and sprouts do not arise from that universal principal that follows what is manifest, because whatever produces fruit, that is, whatever has the ability to produce things, is what truly exists; and there is no mutual following among things that truly exist. This passage explains that it should be known that this negates both the common basis of things and universals, and also negates that if one has the ability to act, then one necessarily has the ability to act in a truly existent way. Thirdly, if water, fertilizer, etc., which are different from the seed that produces the sprout, can also produce the sprout, then all barley seeds, etc., would become producers of rice sprouts, etc., because there is no difference in their being different. If one nature could produce, that would lead to a very absurd conclusion. Therefore, even though barley seeds and rice seeds are the same in essence, some rice seeds, etc., as the subject of the proposition, are the cause of rice sprouts, but other barley seeds are not the cause of rice sprouts, because such is the nature or law of things. Secondly, there are five points to refute the oneness of the nature of phenomena: stating the absurdity and refuting the fault, eliminating the commonality of distinctions, self-character birth

One should abandon actions that are not beneficial. What is produced by many has no harm, but what is produced by one has harm. The first case is: if all things are of one nature, without any difference in essence, then the various things that arise successively, the subject, should simultaneously arise and cease, because they are of the same substance. If it is said that there is not absolutely no difference, but that there is a temporary difference from the main general entity, so they do not simultaneously arise and cease, because the temporary is impermanent, but the nature is permanent, then, the nature of the main entity, the subject, should not be the same as the nature of that difference, because when one difference is destroyed, you still exist, that is, because you exist. If you admit this, then the general and the particular will become different in meaning, and in that case, the general and the particular, the subject, should not have the words and concepts that match the meaning, such as "this is the general of this particular" or "this is the particular of this general," because they are different substances that do not depend on each other. The second case is: if when a manifestation is destroyed, the fault of examining whether the general is destroyed or not also applies to the general of elimination, if the general of elimination also perishes like one manifestation perishing, then the remaining manifestations will become without a general, and if it does not perish, then the general and the particular will become different substances. Here, for the general of elimination, there are two cases: one is to regard as elimination that which is different from this and exists in all manifestations in terms of elimination, and the other is to give the name of elimination to the one who eliminates the image of conceptualization. If we consider the first case, then the elimination of difference, the subject, when one manifestation is destroyed, you should not be considered as something that exists or does not exist, because you have no essence. If we consider the second case, then the mind of the general that conceives many things as one, the subject, there is no refutation through the way of "when one manifestation is destroyed, are you something that exists or does not exist," because for you, the appearance of external objects is a false illusion, and you know that you are not the appearance of external objects and the same substance. This is the same meaning as what is said: "If consciousness is not different from it, how can it follow another object?" Here, Tibetans regard the self-characteristic of things as elimination, and the non-affirming negation that is different from this as elimination.
