Ukana says: 'Because it is not the basis,' this reason is not established. If you say, 'Because there is a category in every place, even in newly arising appearances there is a generality,' then that generality, the subject, should be seen in all aspects of whether appearances exist or not. In one aspect where appearances exist, what is it that you make clear with the appearance? Because there is no difference in all aspects. If you say that generality exists in all aspects but is not seen in some, because seeing the generality depends on the appearance making it clear, then seeing the generality does not depend on the appearance. If it depends and the clarifier does not understand the appearance, then the generality to be clarified is also not truly understood. Because of that commitment. If you accept, why would you want to reverse the way of understanding the generality and the nature of appearance that possesses it? Because previously you committed to grasping the generality and understanding the appearance, but here you commit to understanding the generality by relying on the appearance. Secondly, there are two aspects to the non-pervasiveness of entering into hearing: stating the proof of non-pervasiveness and refuting the faults spoken by others. The first is that if a single word-consciousness is applied to many, it is not pervasive that there is one general entity as the cause. Because the meaning of non-difference is that even without a single generality, many individuals can be referred to by a single word such as 'cook' and 'extractor.' The second has two aspects: the act of cooking is not a valid cause for hearing, and the generality of cooking is not a valid cause for hearing. The first is: if you say that the single act of cooking, etc., done by those individuals is the cause of a single word-consciousness, then the separate acts done by each individual, the subject, should not be the reason for a single word-consciousness, because they are not many different. If you say that although the individual characteristics of the acts are not many, the type of act is one, so that is the cause, then the type of this act, the subject, should not be the cause of the single word-consciousness of calling many individuals 'cook,' because it is not directly related to the individuals but only directly related to the act. And for that reason, the differences in the act other than the individual are called 'cooking,' so they should be the reason for a single hearing. Furthermore, the individual at the time of stopping the act of cooking, the subject, should not be referred to by the word 'cook,' because the act of cooking has also stopped and is no longer present.

If the category of action is related to action, and action is also related to substance, because the category of action is related to substance through lineage, then the verbal consciousness of calling a substance (person) a "cook" is the sole cause, if that is the view. Then, when action ceases, the subject, the category of action should not be related to action, because the action has ceased. If you concede, then the universal of action, the subject, at the time when action ceases, it is unreasonable for it to be the cause of a single verbal consciousness arising in a person, because even through the lineage of action, it is not related to the person. The pervasion is that since the connection is not established, it is not a reasonable cause for a single verbal consciousness to arise in it, because if it were reasonable, then a horse would also become a cause for a cow to have a single verbal consciousness, because it would be too extreme. If you say that the actions that have been done in the past and will be done in the future are the cause of verbal consciousness now, then the actions of the past and the future, the subject, should not be the cause of present knowledge and expression, because they do not exist now. If it is not pervasive, then those knowledge and expressions are obtained as being without cause, that is, they become without cause. If it does not exist, then it is not its cause, so it is not pervasive. If the power of action is the cause of a single verbal consciousness of calling many cooking persons "cooks," then the power of each action, the subject, should not be the cause of a single verbal consciousness for many, because there is no concomitance with other substances. The second case is, if because there is a single universal of cook, etc., many cooks are called "cooks," then, those cooking persons, the subject, should be called "cooks" at the very beginning of their birth, unrelated to the act of cooking, because at that time the universal of cook exists. The reason is that your treatise admits that all the universals of things that correspond to the meaning are only corresponding to the arising of this (person). If you go beyond that treatise, and are not initially related to the universal, then the substance (person), the subject, should not become related to the universal later either, because later it is also the same as before, being permanent. If the substance is initially related to the universal, but it is not clear, so verbal consciousness does not arise initially, then, initially, the subject, that universal will become clear.
