etc. Because similarities appear the same among similar things, it looks like one. Because it looks different from other non-trees, it appears to be different. Whatever appears in this way is the subject. It is not true in the way it appears, because it lacks the function of appearing like the components of analysis. Second, there are seven other terms that can be applied to it: establishing terms for commonality and common ground, establishing dharma and subject like commonality, what is established does not exist in meaning, although it does not exist, it shows the necessity of establishing, presents the argument that does not exist in meaning, eliminates contradictions with scripture, and briefly explains how sound concepts operate. The first point has three parts: establishing commonality and common ground due to confusion of terms; even if it is confusion, it is the cause of obtaining self-characteristics; even if similar in confusion, it is not obtained from other things. First, it exists in the knowledge of the concept of holding trees, that is, the things that appear, the various aspects of trees, are the subject. In your illusion, the terms of commonality and common ground are attached to you. Because you appear to have an essence different from non-trees, you appear like one that is not a different kind of tree, therefore it is commonality. In addition, your components, the various aspects of flesh, also appear different from other clear trees. Therefore, for those who have a common ground of practice, the knowledge of concepts and the expression of sound enrich the erroneous meaning by expanding the terms of commonality and common ground. Second, all terms of self-characteristics of things, whether knowledge or expression, are the subject. You are actually the object of excluding others, and you are the reliance of obtaining the self-characteristics of the object. Because you are a term that has a direct or indirect connection with the self-characteristics of the object, and you rely on self-characteristics that are not related to each other, therefore you are a term that is produced indirectly. For example, as said before, the inference that relies on the sign of the result itself does not deceive in the field of practice. Third, even if it looks like a confusion on the object that appears, it is not obtained from a term that has no connection with other objects. Just like holding the light of a lamp as a jewel, one does not obtain the jewel. Second, if the self-characteristics clarified by the concept of the previous third doubt are regarded as the same and universally established, then the terms of dharma and subject do not

It will be appropriate, if you ask why dharma and the possessor of dharma are not appropriate on the self-character. For the appearance that appears to the conceptual mind, many different trees can also produce one kind of fruit, and the non-fruit of that tree, etc., speaking with the reason of relying on other things, through speech and the knowledge of conceptual thought, the term 'tree' is applied as the same kind, just like that, even one deer appearing to the conceptual mind is known to have various different dharmas, because it appears to be different from the meaning of the non-fruit of that tree and the non-fruit of that deer, etc. On one deer, the conceptual mind distinguishes many different dharmas, this is the subject of dharma. This is necessary, because in order to fully show that the deer produces many fruits is the object of the deer. This is also because one is not understood as one, and it is distinguished in order to be understood. That is its meaning. Here, most of the previous ones, the reason for applying the general term, and the reason for applying the terms of dharma and the possessor of dharma, dividing them into separate chapters like this, is because just as the general term is applied to the appearance of conceptual thought, the terms of dharma and the possessor of dharma are also applied to the appearance of conceptual thought, not understanding the meaning as a similar example, because the way of applying the general term has been said before. And, in the self-commentary, it is also said that on the meaning appearing to knowledge, the general and the common basis, and the terms of dharma and the possessor of dharma, etc., are established, because the general term has not been said until here. The third is, this sound and meaning that has become the object of the terms of dharma and the possessor of dharma, and the common basis itself that was said before, this is the subject of dharma. It is impossible on the self-character of things, because although it does not exist in meaning, it appears to the conceptual mind as it is said in the world, therefore those previous sounds and meanings are applied to the general, because at that time it has been shown that the general does not exist in the ultimate, and then the common basis and dharma and the possessor of dharma are applied to things that do not exist in the ultimate, therefore not understanding the meaning of this special explanation of sound and meaning. The fourth is, although it does not exist in meaning, what is the necessity of establishing the term? For one thing, the difference between dharma and the possessor of dharma is established, and what kind of difference is the common basis, and what kind of non-difference is the general establishment, only that meaning is not considered.
