Thus it is. Secondly, for conceptual thought, when all the vases appear as separate forms, the clinging to them as one is precisely because of mixing similar kinds into one. To think that the former has already been explained and that the latter is being shown here is unreasonable. This is because what was previously explained was not a commonality pervading all vases, but a commonality that distinguishes multiple negations within a single vase itself. Moreover, both commonalities that you assert are similarly explained starting from "relying on distinct entities." Some say that a commonality is what is separate from other entities and unrelated to dissimilar kinds, thus it is the commonality of those that are negated from that, so it is closely designated as a commonality by other terms only for its own characteristic, as stated in "from similar entities, other entities, relying on negation." Others say that the part that is negated from dissimilar kinds, which each possesses, is also designated as a commonality, and an answer has also been given. Both of these explanations are unreasonable. If the commonality that was previously explained is designated with the name of commonality for the meaning's own characteristic, then one must accept that the self-nature sign, the conclusive sign of reasoning, the subject, property, and reason are self-characteristics, thus the need to extensively demonstrate the distinctions of excluding others in this context will be lost. Therefore, I will explain the meaning here based on the instructions of glorious Sakya Paṇḍita. Those who enjoy the secret words of speculation, listen with your necks bent. If there is no other meaning of separation and negation, then for the separate self-characteristics, there will be no commonality. Because self-characteristics do not follow each other, there is no single substance of commonality, and because there is no other meaning of separation and negation, there is also no other substance of commonality. If you say this, then here there are two commonalities, as in "because they abide in their own essence," for the self-characteristics that do not mix with each other, as in "separate from similar entities, other entities," one of which is unrelated to entities of similar and dissimilar kinds, which is separation, and is the similarity of the self-characteristics with negation from that, which is the commonality itself, as previously explained. That is to say, in short, for a single sound itself, dividing it into three negations of sound, permanence, and impermanence from the perspective of exclusion is the commonality of sound, thus it is said to have been explained. As stated in the Treasure of Logic: "Because the objects of exclusion of others are different, it is reasonable for one to have multiple negations."

And, the need for such separation is also that, for one who does not understand as one, it is separated in order to understand. As it is said. The meaning of "furthermore" is that, from the general that is separated from one into different ones, from other cognitions, this general that appears as different as one will be explained here. As it is said in the 'Treasury of Reasoning': Those whose actions and characteristics are the same, cling to it as one due to the power of habit. Also, the need to gather into one is that, for the various differences, giving affirmation and negation, the action will be understood as one aspect. As it is said. Here, doing sound upon sound, the three negations of impermanence are also all generalities, and the negations, generalities, and other-exclusions are the same in meaning, which is clearly stated in the root and commentaries and in the 'Treasury of Reasoning', but the way of establishing generalities and particulars nowadays does not match even a part. Establishing one's own system has already been shown in the general meaning. Therefore, as a response to the previous doubts, the generality of distinguishing one thing into many has been explained, and here it relies on things that are different from non-trees, that is, clear trees. Having grown through lineage, in reality, clear trees appear as one form of trees in the cognitive consciousness. Clear trees appear as one form of trees, because your own essence, the form produced by habit, obscures the essence of other things, that is, the self-character of clear trees. It is pervasive, because the obscuring conventional consciousness obscures the clear trees, even though their nature is different, but they are still different, therefore, the things of clear trees, due to some essence that is the opposite of non-trees, appear as not like different things, but like one thing. The form of a tree that appears in cognition, as a subject, because of your clinging to the essence of external trees, therefore it is proclaimed that clear trees have a generality, because in the face of your cognition that holds trees, clear trees appear as a generality that follows along. Therefore, the form that appears in cognition itself, in the view of cognition itself, is the actual object of expression of generality and sound, and the terms of common basis and all affirmations and negations are also actually done on this in the view of cognition itself, and saying that it is not established in meaning is because it is not established as it was examined by oneself, and other later cognitions will distinguish its mode of existence.
