It means that, apart from not establishing a basis on the counter-property, not establishing on either establishment or non-establishment that follows, etc., are faults. If someone asks, since that is the case, why is it not said that hesitating about the counter-property is a fault, but rather it is said "depending on the situation"? The answer is, this is not to say that not establishing a basis on the counter-property is a fault, but rather that hesitation is not a fault. Because immediately after that, saying that there is certainty about both, that is truly establishing or refuting, not saying that there is establishment or hesitation on either one. Because that is what (the treatise) says. Otherwise, it would become saying contradictions. The fifth example is, when establishing whether sound is permanent or impermanent, as the basis of the debate, the uncommon characteristic is "what is heard", as the subject. It can be inferred that it has been established as separated from both permanent and impermanent. Because it is merely not seeing both. If admitted, then, this subject will become a reason that can distinguish whether sound is permanent or impermanent, because no matter whether it is used as an argument for establishing sound as permanent or impermanent, it possesses the property of the subject and the counter-property pervasion. If admitted, then it contradicts what the teacher said, "How can what is heard itself become a reason for distinguishing?" If it is said that it cannot prevent both for that (sound), because if it prevents both for that, then, because other valid cognition harms the fact that if one direct contradiction is prevented on the same object, the other must necessarily be established, so it does not possess an object without harm. If that is the case, then this situation is merely not seeing on the dissimilar side, and cannot be established as necessarily non-existent. It can be inferred that, just as preventing both permanent and impermanent on the heard sound will be harmed by other valid cognition, other reasons merely not seeing on the dissimilar side, when establishing as necessarily non-existent, may also be harmed by other valid cognition. The sixth example is, the Vaisheshika school wants to establish that the feeling of indifference is a quality of wind alone, therefore for the seen earth, water, and fire, as the subject, it does not possess the feeling of indifference, because the feeling of indifference is not seen. This reason, it can be inferred, this subject possesses an unerring counter-property pervasion. Because it is merely not seeing on the dissimilar side. If admitted, then it contradicts what the teacher said in "The Division of Wind": "If merely because it is not seen, it prevents the touch on the seen objects, then that is also unreasonable."

Secondly, if non-perception alone establishes non-existence, then the remaining mangoes that are similar in shape to the mango with special taste and potency are the subject of the proposition. They possess special taste and potency because they are mangoes. When this is stated, the mango is the subject of the proposition. The counter-pervasion of its establishment is complete, it is consequential. If it is asserted that the non-concordant side of its establishment is merely because it is not seen, then the sign of its establishment becomes a correct sign, it is consequential. Because the property of the subject and the counter-pervasion of its establishment are complete. It is not possible to assert this, because due to differences such as the goodness or badness of the place and the quality of the work, the substance of the mango appears to have different potencies and tastes, and therefore, seeing that one mango has a special taste and potency, it is not reasonable to conclude that other mangoes also have that special taste and potency. Thirdly, is that which is not observed on the dissimilar side of the sign itself the proof of the absence on the dissimilar side in the argument, or is it not? It is consequential. Because in general, the non-observation of that dharma does not thoroughly prove the absence of that dharma. The sign is admitted, because the Vaisheshikas assert that there is a self in the living body, the Lokayatas assert that there is consciousness in the earth, and the Samkhyas, summarized by "etc.", assert that the effect is not observed in the cause, but it exists. The third has four points: If there is a connection, the opposite is established. If there is no connection, there is no going back and forth. The way to show the connection in the example. By that way, the pervasion of the negation sign is established. The first point: Because the opposite is not established by merely not seeing, therefore, the nature of the sign to be taken as the sign is merely existence, and the opposite of the dharma to be established, which has become the very nature of the sign related to its own nature, changes the very nature of the sign. For example, just as impermanence, which is related to being made by its own nature, changes, being made also changes. The word "also" leads to the latter, that is, the opposite of the dharma to be established, which has become the cause of the sign to be taken as the sign, then the result, that is, the reason, will change, because there is no confusion in the result's following and reversing the cause. For example, just as the result, smoke, changes because the opposite of fire, which has become the cause of smoke. The second point: If the connection between the sign and the dharma is not established, then the other sign is the subject of the proposition. How can the power of the opposite of one dharma change? It will not change, it is consequential. Because it has no connection with the dharma. It will not change.
