The common uncertainty and, corresponding to it, the correct excess, and the antidote to the uncommon uncertainty are, in order: the side property, the subsequent occurrence, and the exclusion pervasion, that is, all three modes of reasoning must be determined by the power of valid cognition, because it is said that way. The Compendium says, "Whatever is thoroughly established for both is the proof." Both are the subject of debate and the concordant side, and thorough establishment is certainty. Some also say that it was said by Dignāga. The second has three: refuting by contradicting one's own school's scriptures, refuting by contradicting the common factual reasoning, and refuting by contradicting the other school's accepted tenets. The first has six: the exclusion pervasion is not the subject of expression, it follows; the excess is a mistake, it follows; having life is knowable, it follows; doubt is a sign, it follows; hearing both are refuted, it follows; touching and preventing is reasonable, it follows. The first is: Master Dharmakīrti and others believe that the exclusion is established merely by not seeing it on the dissimilar side, and the Master himself also believes this. Then, in the Gate of Reasoning, for the antidote to the uncertain ones with confusion, it is necessary to state to the opponent the reason for establishing the exclusion pervasion in the example of the dissimilar property, what is the use of that? Dharma, it is meaningless, it follows. If it is said that merely not seeing the sign on the dissimilar side is the fruit or necessity of realization, then, that necessity will be realized even if you do not mention it. If you admit, in the Gate of Reasoning, temporarily for the antidote to contradiction and uncertainty, both should be stated, this contradicts the statement "this is reason." If you say that even if you only do not see it, you can realize it, but in order to determine that it is not on the dissimilar side, it must be said. If you do not realize that it is not there just by not seeing it, then, in the example of the dissimilar property that says "the sign is not on the dissimilar side," with the words that establish the exclusion pervasion, Dharma, from you, that sign is not established only by not being on the dissimilar side, it follows. Because you only stated that the sign was not seen on the dissimilar side, and did not state the reason for not being there. If it becomes like that for you too, if how, when stating the words that establish the exclusion pervasion in the example of the dissimilar property, Dharma, you sign dissimilar

Understanding that it does not exist in the opposite side. If the reason that the opposite side does not exist as a reason, that is, the reason is related to the Dharma and self-nature, then the argumentative statement that is said is without fault. The meaning of "stating the non-conforming Dharma," if it is explained as an argumentative statement of non-conforming Dharma, then from the sentence "the reason does not exist in the opposite side," it must be admitted that the reason does not exist in the same side, which contradicts the preceding and following discourses that prohibit understanding the meaning from the language, and it is understood from the language that it cannot become an antidote to the deluded. Second, if it is thought that merely because it is not seen in the opposite side, it can be determined that the opposite side does not exist, then the following content is also preposed. For example, using the reason of being similar in shape to a ripe fruit to prove that the remaining fruit is not ripe is a Dharma with remainder. If so, then it is a delusion of reverse pervasion, and if not, it is because the reason is established by not being seen in the opposite side. If agreed, then it contradicts the teacher's statement that "it is unreasonable that because the shape and so on are similar, the taste and so on must also be similar." Third, those who have tenets fabricate the reason of having the reverse direction merely because it is not seen in both sides, such as life and so on, which is also a Dharma. If it is thought that using it to prove that the living body has self is a correct reason, then it is because the tenet Dharma of that reason is established, and it is only not seen in the opposite side. If agreed, then it contradicts the teacher's statement that "this is the same as the one to be heard and the seemingly valid reason." Fourth, for the reason of hesitating whether it exists or not in the opposite side, this is a Dharma. If the reason that is not established due to hesitation about the tenet Dharma is combined with the fault that the reverse pervasion is not established, then it is unreasonable to say that it is, because it is only not seen in the opposite side. If agreed, then it contradicts the teacher's statement that "the tenet Dharma must be determined by both the opponent and the refuter. Similarly, for whether it exists or not in the same side, it should also be stated according to the situation." Its meaning is that for the tenet Dharma, it is not established for either or both of the opponent and the refuter, or there is hesitation, or the foundation is not established, just like the foundation fault, for the one based on the establishment of the tenet Dharma.
