Because the arising of the result from this name depends on it. The Pradhāna, the subject, what is the use of investigating the meaning of your name? It becomes meaningless. Because the meaning of your name is not capable of functioning. For example, what is the use of those with desire investigating whether a hermaphrodite is beautiful or not beautiful? It is just like being useless. Fifth, if the name is taken as the subject, it contradicts the sutra which says, "No dharma is found upon investigation," thus establishing the Pradhāna's own characteristic as the subject and stating that it is the reason because it is not found. The meaning of the word "Pradhāna" itself is the subject. It is said to be imputed, because it is merely the object of conceptual consciousness. This name, which is not established as relying on the Pradhāna reality, i.e., is not found, is the subject. The meaning of the word "Pradhāna," not relying on the Pradhāna reality, is stated by Dignāga, the logician, as the dharma of the reason for establishing it, because it is the meaning of "not found." Extensive Explanation of Pseudo-Reasons Fourth, the extensive explanation of pseudo-reasons is divided into two: marginal analysis and the actual meaning. First, from this text onward, Uyukpa considered the treatise to be unrelated to the chapter, thus only taking it as a subsequent meaning and not combining it with the extensive explanation of pseudo-reasons, and therefore most later Tibetans follow him. Because it is the subsequent meaning of that treatise, there is no harm whatsoever to it being an extensive explanation of pseudo-reasons, because the four extensive explanations are connected with the latter following the former, which has already been explained. If one examines the main topic to be expressed from this text onward and the place where it resides, it is also very clear, because most of the large collections of texts from this point onward explain pseudo-reasons by relating them to the tenets of non-Buddhist schools, and in the Pramāṇavārttika, pseudo-reasons do not need to be combined with the concise statement, so it did not appear here, but in the Compendium of Valid Cognition, it must be combined with it, so it appeared here. Because of "since if absent, it does not arise," this also clarifies this meaning. In the concise statement, "because if absent, it necessarily does not arise," thus, the aspect of identifying pseudo-reasons other than "if absent, it necessarily does not arise"...

because it has been done that way. In the explanations of others, the way in which seemingly valid reasons are established in a seemingly concordant manner, in any detailed explanation of seemingly valid reasons, has already been explained above. Those who do not find these very large collections of texts and only identify them as four intermediate verses, and those who think that there is absolutely no detailed explanation of seemingly valid reasons, are a cause for laughter. The second point is: Some say that if two valid cognitions are wrong, the meaning of the portion is not refuted, but if the scripture is wrong, it is refuted, because the scripture pervades all things. There are five refutations to this: Mere sound is not certain about the meaning, it is seemingly valid. A word with a specific characteristic is not established, it is seemingly valid. Proving the true meaning with the sound of a category is also seemingly valid. Therefore, mere scripture is mistaken about the meaning to be expressed. Criticizing the speaker by pointing out internal contradictions. The first point has two parts: Because there is no connection, it is not a proof. In this regard, avoiding contradiction with scripture. The first point is: The sounds of expression are the subject. From the fact that it is posited as a sign, it is not established that its own expression has an intrinsic meaning, because the intrinsic nature of the object outside of its own expression, and the fact that it does not arise if it does not exist together, does not exist. Therefore, those sounds of expression are the subject. It can show the intention of motivation in the speaker's mind, that is, it can be established, because the three aspects of establishment are complete in this way. The second point has two parts: Correcting the words of scripture that are suspected of being contradictory. Explaining the meaning of scripture and proving that there is no contradiction. The first point is: If the sound of expression is not a valid cognition of an external object, then, in the Compendium on Valid Cognition, it says: A trustworthy word is not deceptive, it is inferred from the general. If you say that this contradicts inference. That is not saying that it is the definition of inference, but rather, when those with realization engage in the very hidden, they cannot engage in entering and leaving with the valid cognition of the power of things, so they must rely only on scripture. Among the scriptures, this kind of one is considered valid, it is said from the point of view of being completely considered valid. The second point has three parts: Explaining the basis of the definition of a trustworthy word. Explaining the meaning of non-deception from the opposite side. Explaining the way of inferring from the general. The first point is: The trustworthy word spoken in the sutra is the subject. It is not said from the point of view of mere scripture, because of the connection.
