If it exists on some basis, then through some reasons and pervasives that are not obtained, it can be known that the result and the pervaded are non-existent, otherwise it cannot. Because the unobtainable invisible cause and pervasive do not pervade the non-existence of the result and the pervaded. The second case is, if a visible object like a vase, its unseen cause, such as a covering, does not exist, then, the subject of the proposition, if the object of the visible vase exists, then from the sign of being knowable but unobtainable, it can be known that on some basis the object of the visible vase does not exist, because if the visible vase is unobtainable, then it must not exist. The second case is, the subject of the proposition, cold touch, taking the contradiction of you and it not being able to exist simultaneously as a sign, it can be determined that on some basis you do not exist, because even if there is an object of contradiction that cannot exist simultaneously with you, it will hinder your existence. The third part has five points: establishing three meanings, thereby proving no contradiction; prohibiting the meaning of sound is self-characterized; if the meaning of sound is prohibited, it will become a fault; showing that the object of investigation is only self-characterized; eliminating the doubt of contradicting the scriptures. The first point, some say, using the unobtainable sign to negate necessary existence is to prove necessary non-existence. If so, then the sign stated by Dignāga, "The self is non-existent, because it is unobtainable," is not an unobtainable sign, because it cannot prove necessary non-existence or negate necessary existence. If the self exists, it cannot be negated, and the word "non-existent" is unreasonable. If it does not exist, because the subject of the proposition does not exist, then this sign has no basis, and the word "self" is not applicable. If so, then the dharma of the sound meaning that is completely established by the discrimination arising from the previous previous habits since beginningless time, that is, the fabricated sound meaning, is the subject of the proposition. There are three cases: existence depends on the real, non-existence depends on the unreal, and both depend on the knowable. Therefore, the reason stated by the teacher, using the word "non-existent" is unreasonable, and there is no fault of the subject of the proposition not existing. Because in the three sound meanings, the sound meaning of the unreal self is to prove that there is no proximate cause of the real self, so not recognizing that proximate cause of the real self is proving that way.

Because this is the line of reasoning, the very meaning of the subject is not non-existent, because there is the combination of the word "subject." The second case is that if the meaning of the subject exists, then the subject contradicts itself by not existing in its own right, because all words are ultimate, they point entirely to self-nature, therefore the meaning of the word and self-nature are the same. If someone says: For different observers who see things as permanent and impermanent, for things like vases, etc., as the subject, the words permanent and impermanent will not apply, because the reason why these two words apply, i.e., both permanent and impermanent, do not exist. For the past and the unborn, as the subject, the word "now" will also not apply, because self-nature does not exist now. Some words, as the subject, will also not become the meaning of falsehood, because they point to self-nature. Because such faults will occur, these words, as the subject, are considered to be the object of meaning that appears from the mind, because no expression directly points to self-nature. The third case is that if someone says that the sign stated by the teacher is not to negate the self-nature of the subject, but to negate that the very meaning of the subject does not exist. For those who deny the meaning of the subject and want to prove non-existence by the sign, according to their view, that sign that proves the subject does not exist, as the subject, the subject, i.e., the collection of the meaning of the subject and the non-existence of the dharma, will not become your thesis, because the basis of the dharma, i.e., the meaning of the subject, has been excluded by you. If someone thinks that only the non-existence of the dharma is the thesis, then the universal non-existence that is not distinguished by the subject, as the subject, because the subject is not admitted, will not become the thesis of the sign in the eyes of the opponent, because the opponent has already established it. The fourth case is that if the meaning of the subject is not denied, and it itself is the object of application of the word "subject," then, the subject, as the subject, you who do not deny the meaning of the word, if you are examined by the difference between existence and non-existence that can function, then the very thing of your self-nature is what should be examined, because in general
