Now, a detailed explanation of refutation. Firstly, the Vaisheshika school says, if 'other-exclusion' (Tibetan: ལྡོག་པ་གཞན་སེལ་བ་, Sanskrit Devanagari: apoha, Sanskrit Roman transliteration: apoha, literal Chinese meaning: excluding others) is not abandonment, but refers to the essence of things that follow something, being the same and without anything else, except for that thing, then the seed (Tibetan: ས་བོན་) as the subject, your fruit—the sprout—should not become the fruit of other things like water and fertilizer, because they are very different from water and fertilizer. Therefore, even if there are many things, can they produce one fruit with the same essence? If you think so, then it is divided into two parts: refuting with the logic of the Samkhya school, which also negates their recklessness. The first part is divided into three points: the same essence is not the place of entry, the place of entry is shown only as self-character, and the way of entry is examined whether generality exists or not. The first part is divided into three points: refuting the production by the same essence, refuting that things have the same essence, and refuting that the same essence transforms. The first part is divided into three points: if one produces, then the cause is useless; if many produce, then the generality is useless; even if many produce, there are differences. The first point is: if there is a single self-nature, the general 'chief' (Tibetan: སྤྱི་གཙོ་བོ་), and many things like water and fertilizer produce one fruit—the sprout, then the sprout as the subject, the cooperating cause—water, fertilizer, etc.—will become useless in your production, because the single self-nature of the seed can also produce you, because the general 'chief' exists. Establishing this tenet is: the seed as the subject, should be able to constantly produce sprouts, because the self-nature of the general 'chief' that can directly produce sprouts without difference does not leave it, because that is its self-nature. In particular, the cooperating cause as the subject, is not necessarily needed to produce sprouts, because it is not certain to coexist with the 'chief' that has become the self-nature of the seed. The second point is: if you admit that the above cooperating cause becomes useless, then these fruits—the sprouts—as the subject, should arise from the differences of various causes, because when the causes gather, they arise even without the general 'chief', and they do not arise if any one of those causes is missing. Therefore, the fruit—the sprout—does not arise from the general 'chief' that follows the manifestation, because whatever can produce the fruit, that is, the ability to produce, is what truly exists.
