If it is thought that it is established as a general illuminator because it acts as a general holder, then, appearance, as a phenomenon, just as eye medicine and so forth benefit the eye sense, it is not reasonable that you cause the sense to hold the general, because whether you exist or not, there is no difference in the clarity or obscurity of the sense's cognition of the general. Secondly, if it is thought that merely because the appearance is the illuminator of all kinds, it is considered to possess or exist in the class, then the lamp and so forth, the sense and mind, as phenomena, should also obtain possessing or existing in the general of cows and so forth, because they are the cause of illuminating the knowledge of those generals. Secondly, there are three ways to show the harm to existence itself: refuting that others do not have general intelligence, the reason for the refutation is established in others, and refuting others' answers to the unestablished. First, according to those Vaibhashikas who consider the class to be a substance different from the appearance, or those Samkhyas who consider it not to be a different substance but to exist as one, how can the general intelligence arise from the existence of the general of the cow in the appearances of the cow that did not appear before? This is unreasonable, because it is impossible to see the general of the cow that exists in the previous appearance in the other you. Secondly, if it is said that the reason is not established, then according to the Samkhyas, the general, as a phenomenon, does not truly follow in the later appearance, because if it is not different from the previous appearance, then it is one. According to the Vaibhashikas, if the general is a different substance from the appearance, then the general, as a phenomenon, does not exist in the later appearance, because different things do not depend on the later appearance, because you who exist in the previous appearance do not go to the later appearance. When the later appearance arises, you do not exist either, and you do not possess the two parts of existing in the previous appearance and existing in the later appearance. The first reason is established, because the general does not completely abandon the previous appearance on which it depends. Therefore, the so-called general existing in the previous and later appearances is also the cause of pitiful poverty. There are two in the third: refuting that there is no general between appearances, and refuting that there is a general between appearances. First, the Vaibhashika teacher, Kashyapa, believes that a general is immovable.

Without parts. It is considered permissible that pervasion of all appearances is acceptable. His disciple Peta argues that the reason "because it is not a support" is not established, because even if there is no universal between non-appearances, the universal of the previous appearance follows the later appearance. If so, then the later appearance would not have a universal. Furthermore, the universal that abides in the previous appearance does not move from its own place, the previous appearance, to another place. If, from the place where the previous appearance exists, a new appearance arises in another place, and the universal abides there, then it is very reasonable that the later appearance has a universal, but such a thing is impossible. If it is said that the universal does not move from the previous appearance, but pervades the later appearance, then in any place where the object of the newly arisen appearance abides, the universal is neither related to that place nor does it pervade the later appearances that have a place, i.e., those that exist in that place, this is the subject. How amazing is this, because it transcends reason. The second view is that Beluka says: "Because it is not a support" this reason is not established, because if there are genera in all places, then the newly arisen appearance also has a universal. Then, this universal is the subject. It should be seen in all directions of existence and non-existence of appearance. In one direction where appearance exists, what is it that appearance makes you appear? Because there is no difference in all directions. If it is said that the universal exists in all directions, but is not seen in some places, because seeing the universal depends on being made clear by the appearance, then seeing the universal does not depend on the appearance either. If it depends on the appearance, then the clarifier appearance is not realized, then the object to be clarified, the universal, is also not truly realized. Because this has been promised. If it is admitted, then why do the universal and the lord of appearance who possesses it think that the way of realization is reversed? Because previously it was promised to first grasp the universal and then realize the appearance, but here it is promised to rely on the appearance to realize the universal. Secondly, there are two aspects to the lack of pervasion in the entry of the listener: establishing the proof of the lack of pervasion; refuting the faults spoken by others. The first point is that if a single word-consciousness is applied to many things, then this does not pervade the existence of a single universal entity as its cause, because the meaning of no difference is that even without a single universal, many people can be referred to by a single word, such as "cooker" and "extractor," etc.
