Therefore. Third, there are four points for refuting the debates of other schools: refuting the fault of cognitions being mutually dependent; refuting that without a means of severance, there is no exclusion and entry; refuting the examination of whether or not the opposite exists in things; refuting the debate that a common basis cannot possibly transform. The first point has four: stating the fault spoken by others; refuting it with the same reasoning; generating certainty with the answer of things; establishing that all sounds are things with definite apprehension. The first point is: if cognition cannot establish either tree or non-tree, but can only apprehend through exclusion, then, cognition, as the subject, you, regarding the two, tree and non-tree, cognitions are mutually dependent, that is, mutually apprehending, it is necessary to first apprehend the other. Because you must apprehend the meaning of tree by returning from non-tree, that is, excluding non-tree, and non-tree must also be determined by excluding tree. There is pervasion, because without apprehending tree and non-tree, one cannot exclude them. If you admit, then cognition, as the subject, if there is no prior apprehension of tree and non-tree, then both tree and non-tree will not be apprehended. Because there is the fault of tree and non-tree cognitions being mutually dependent, it is impossible to apply sound to the exclusion of excluding non-tree, but only to apply names to common things in the manner of establishing, as some young women and others say. The second is, for those who apply names by excluding others, establishing the fault of cognitions being mutually dependent, when applying the name of tree, do they distinguish non-tree, or do they not? If they answer that they distinguish, then the person who applies the name of tree, as the subject, when applying the name of tree, how do they know non-tree, that is, they cannot know. Because when applying the name of tree, there is no apprehension of the meaning of tree, that is, there is not. The pervasion is promised. Because now they want to know the tree, they seek the tree for the sake of the name of tree and establish it. If you admit, then that, as the subject, from the name of tree, those non-trees will not be excluded as objects to be expressed. Because when applying the name of tree, they do not know non-tree. The sign and pervasion are promised. If you admit, then non-tree, as the subject, after the sound of tree, those who apply the name of tree, that is, those who enter, you will completely abandon it and will not enter.

It's too much. Because the sound "tree" has not excluded you. For example, the differences of trees, such as bark, etc., are not excluded in the context of the word tree, so it is excluded from the context and does not apply, just like that. If, when making an agreement, other non-trees are not previously prevented, and in the manner of merely establishing, for a common meaning possessed by one thing like the bark in front, another is well shown, and then it is agreed that "this is a tree," then making an agreement on the commonality will also become an agreement on all manifestations. Moreover, after that sound, when establishing a name, that is, when applying it, one will also understand that commonality or the manifestation possessing that commonality, and therefore, if one thinks that there is no fault of mutual dependence or possible application to non-trees, then for that, one can also say "this with branches is also a tree," with a non-possessive determination, or say "only this is a tree," with a possessive other determination, if it is like the first agreement, then at the time of naming, it is too much to exclude non-trees from the sound of tree and not apply it. Because at the time of agreement, the agreement of tree has not excluded non-trees. If it is like the second case, then it will become making an agreement of tree by excluding non-trees, and if that is so, then it will become not excluding non-trees, because one does not understand non-trees, because one does not understand trees, such a syllogism cannot be avoided. The third is that for the manifestations of trees and non-trees, because one sees separately the commonality of trees as existent and non-existent, at the time of agreement, one agrees that "only this is a tree," therefore at the time of naming, there is no fault of applying to non-trees, and also because one has made an agreement on the commonality, it will also become making an agreement on all excluded things, therefore, because it pervades everything. For those who say exclusion, it is not the same as that, because the commonality is not existent, and the meaning of the time of agreement is obstructed, therefore it will be too much to not understand the meaning of the time of naming. If you say so, then according to us, it is also said that for things with the same result, such as trees, understanding them as the same kind, such an understanding is the knower residing in the same thing, the dharma. After you have directly seen the manifestations of trees and non-trees separately, with discrimination, you understand them as the same kind, the cause of that understanding, such as bark, etc., and things that are not the cause of the same understanding, such as stones, etc., do not need to rely on agreement, the wisdom that can distinguish them separately by oneself, will also arise before the agreement of tree, therefore the wisdom of understanding bark, etc., as the same kind, for that
