Then, the logician Dignāga, with inference, apprehends the difference made by the exclusion of others. If someone says that this contradicts the statement that apprehends the self-character mixed with the universal. This is to be established. For the conceptualization that thinks, "This is to be established, this is the reason for establishment," the subject, the self-character made by impermanence is not actually apprehended, because the appearance of the self-character of things, that is, the phenomenon disappears. Dignāga apprehends the difference mixed with the universal by inference, for this statement, the subject, one's own nature mixed with the universal, is not shown as the object of inference, because the difference appearing in conceptualization is the universal mixed with the exclusion of others, so it is shown as the object of inference. That self-character, the subject, the aspect of the universal and the aspect of the difference, and so on, dharma and subject, any conceptualization is not actually the object to be apprehended, because many differences of dharmas are not possible on that one. Seventh, sound and conceptualization are also the subject, the nature of that self-character, not oneself, returning from all dissimilarities, is not actually realized as such, because it is the universal itself that actually enters. From apprehending the nature to here is the concluding verse. Second, explaining the way of entering the sound of difference has four aspects: refuting the linguistic object accepted by other schools, establishing the linguistic object accepted by one's own school, refuting the arguments of other schools against this, and showing the summary of the meaning of both refutation and establishment. The first has three aspects: refuting that the self-character is the linguistic object, refuting that the universal entity is the linguistic object, and refuting that possessing the universal is the linguistic object. First, regarding the statement "The sound that realizes it as such is not," the grammarians say that it is unreasonable that the self-character is not the actual object expressed by sound, because when saying "Bring the pot," it is entering into taking the meaning of being able to draw water. The self-character, the subject, is not the actual object expressed by the speaking sound, because it is not the actual object of language. Pervasive, because all the sounds of speaking show the meaning of themselves being nominally designated as language. The reason is that language cannot be actually applied to that self-character, because when making the name, it is one's own nature at the time of language.

Because there is none, therefore it is for that reason. It is pervasive, because that name is established for the purpose of understanding meaning at the time of expression. The second is what the Vaisheshika and Samkhya schools say, in order, from appearance, independent of the common illusion of things that are different and appearances that are the same, it is the real object of the name, and it also exists at the time of expression, so there is no fault as stated above. If you say that, then for the view that only the genus is the object to be expressed, the genus of the cow, is the subject, independent of illusion, it is not the real object of the name called cow, because it is not suitable for the function of the cow. It is pervasive, because when making a name, in any case, the person seeking the meaning of the cow must know that the cow is able to function, and then he can achieve it. Because thinking that the actors will enter, therefore, in order to express the meaning, the combination of names is made. The third part is divided into two points: stating the view and refuting it. The first point is: because the name is associated with the appearance that has that genus, the thing that is able to function, so there is no fault as stated above. If you say that, the second part is divided into three points: it is the same as the appearance that has the genus. There is no need to examine other commonalities. Even if there are no other commonalities, it is reasonable to recognize. The first point is: why is that name not actually associated with the appearance itself that is universally offered? If asked, if it cannot be associated with it, because it is infinite, then the appearance that has the genus, is the subject, you also cannot associate with it, because this is equally infinite, because the genus has not reduced the number of appearances. The second point is: the meaning of the actions of milking, plowing, etc., opposite to all things that do not do that action, with a similar form, the other exclusions that produce illusion in the external object, why is it not expressed with sound? As an answer, for expressing things that have that genus, Acharya Dignāga said, because having that genus is without autonomy, etc., this also applies here, because our having genus and your exclusion are the same except for the name. If you say that, then it will be explained below that there is no this fault. Even if this fault exists, it is acceptable, because the appearance, is the subject, you only need one sound and consciousness to enter, you do not need other genera and things, because even if there is no other genus meaning, also
