Examining the opponent's reasons and refuting them. Refuting the fundamental reason's thesis. The first part has two points: refuting with reasoning that starts the same, and refuting by contradicting the commitment. The first point is: The Vedas, as the subject of the proposition, why are they not of erroneous meaning? Because they express meaning. The reason is: because they are not made by humans. The pervasion is: the reason for the truth of words is the qualities such as wisdom and compassion, and these depend on humans. This is what other Buddhists say. The second part has two points: establishing the consequence, and refuting the fault. The first point is: The words of the Vedas, as the subject of the proposition, even if your essence is not made by humans, it is possible to show erroneous meaning. The reason is: the cause of understanding meaning from you—the sign—depends on humans. The second part has two points: stating the fault, and refuting it. The first point is: The reason is not established, because the relationship between the sound and meaning of the Vedas is not set by humans, but is established by nature. If it is said so. The second part has two points: refuting by over-inference, and refuting by analysis. The first point is: The sound of the Vedas, as the subject of the proposition, without knowing which meaning it is associated with, the expressed meaning will be understood from you. The reason is: because without relying on the sign, but by the power of the sound and meaning being naturally related, meaning is understood from you. If it is said that the sign set by humans clarifies the naturally related relationship, therefore meaning is understood from there. The sound of the Vedas, as the subject of the proposition, apart from the sign relationship that you examine, the naturally related relationships have no ability to understand meaning, because setting a sign can understand meaning, and not setting a sign, even if there is a naturally related relationship, cannot understand meaning. The second part has three points: refuting by examining the expressed meaning, refuting by examining the relationship, and refuting by examining the expresser. The first point is: If the Vedas are naturally related to meaning, then are they naturally related to one meaning or multiple meanings? If it is like the first case, the words of the Vedas, as the subject of the proposition, you will not understand other multiple meanings, because you are determined to express only one meaning. If it is like the second case, "One who desires heaven should offer sacrifices to the fire." Like such a Vedic

Sound is characterized by dharma. It can be determined that it also clearly reveals things that contradict desire, such as eating dog meat. This is because it is inherently and manifestly related to all meanings that are not singular. If this is accepted, then the Vedas, characterized by dharma, even if uncreated by humans, would become meaningless in proving that only the meaning of desire is not mistaken, because they would show things that contradict the meaning of desire. Furthermore, if there is a relationship between different sounds and meanings, then for the sake of distinguishing them. From the perspective of logical expression, sound and meaning are characterized by dharma. They are not related because they are not related to a single entity or anything arising from it. The sign is established because the two are different substances and sound is considered permanent. Furthermore, the Vedas are characterized by dharma. From you, no meaning can be understood at all, because it is not well-formed by humans. If it is admitted that it is well-formed by humans and therefore able to understand meaning, then this view of yours is characterized by dharma. In reality, it is like an elephant's bath, because you believe that not creating it is for removing the dirt of delusion, but it is covered with moisture that does not express meaning; you believe that creating it is for removing the moisture that does not express meaning, but it is covered with the dirt of delusion. The second part has two parts: refuting by examining permanence and impermanence; refuting by examining oneness and difference. The first part has two parts: explaining the reasoning that refutes permanence; refuting the examples and meanings of uncertainty. The first part is: is the relationship between sound and meaning impermanent or permanent? If it is the former, then it contradicts self-establishment; if it is the latter, then the objects expressed by the sound of the Vedas related to the relationship, such as vases, etc., are characterized by dharma. There is no permanent substance in the relationship between you and the sound of the Vedas, because you are all impermanent. Therefore, the relationship in which the expressed meaning and the expressing sound appear mixed together is characterized by dharma. It can be determined that it is created by human intelligence, that is, imputed. Because it only exists in convention and does not exist in meaning in any aspect of permanence or impermanence. Furthermore, the sound of the Vedas is characterized by dharma. From you, newly arising meanings cannot be understood, because you have no relationship with newly arising meanings. If someone says that the reason is not established, because a relationship has arisen together with new things, then for the sounds of the Vedas, they are characterized by dharma. Previously, there was no relationship with later meanings.
