The intent of the author, the holy one. The intent of the author, the holy one. First, the limb of entering virtue is shown. The second part has three: First, the limb of entering virtue is shown, in the middle, the treatise of the virtue to be entered itself is explained, and finally, the greatness of the treatise of virtue is stated. The first part has two: To generate faith, offering is stated, and the necessity of composing the treatise is shown. The first part has necessity, summary, and meaning of the words, three in total. First, the author himself realizes as a holy one, therefore others will enter the treatise made by him; and the ultimate result, the three bodies and activities, is shown, therefore others will enter the treatise that shows its cause as the subject; and when followers explain and listen, reciting the verses of offering, therefore their obstacles will be pacified and accumulations will be completed, these are the three necessities. The second part has praise and prostration, two. The first part has self-benefit and other-benefit, two. The first is the three bodies. The third is, directly saying prostration. To whom? To the Buddha who is perfect with two benefits. What are the two benefits? Self-benefit is the dharmakaya, which is the nature of eliminating the net of clinging to self and what belongs to self, or clinging to the grasped and the grasper, with the power of the antidote, completely and without rebirth; and the sambhogakaya, which abides only in Akanishta and teaches only the profound Mahayana Dharma to the retinue of tenth-ground bodhisattvas; and the nirmanakaya, which shows bodies that tame according to what is needed to all three types of beings, that is, having the three bodies. And "ching" is a conjunction. Other-benefit is that Samantabhadra is higher realms and definite goodness, and the light of the sacred Dharma that shows them shines completely and without remainder. Or, in the manner of "Samantabhadra, the unparalleled great sage," Samantabhadra is the Buddha; in the manner of "with a body radiating various sacred Dharma lights," his light is his sacred Dharma, and making it shine is an ornament of form related to light. Some Indians also explain it by relating it to the Bodhisattva Samantabhadra, but the former is more in line with the meaning. In the second part, the former is mostly the first line.

It is inappropriate to explain that the three reasons explain not writing for the sake of others, and the fourth reason explains writing for one's own sake. In the Pramāṇavārttika, it says: Whoever accepts after the arrival of the noble one, he is the one with glorious and stainless wisdom. The foolish wisdom of the world cannot clearly understand his firm words. If one slightly slanders him who is close to the world and makes the world grow because of delusion, because it will give rise to meaninglessness, therefore, out of compassion, clarify his rules. It is said that it is written for the sake of others. Because no one can distinguish the difference between the Pramāṇavārttika being written for the sake of others and the Pramāṇavārttikakārikā not being written for the sake of others. Therefore, this has two necessities: the necessity for others and the necessity for oneself. The first has three aspects: directly showing that there is no direct benefit for those who have the faults of the vessel, indirectly showing that there is also indirect benefit for those, and showing through the power of "also" that there is direct benefit for those who have the qualities of the vessel. The first is: Dharmakīrti said to me: This teaching is not meant to directly benefit those listeners who have the three faults of the vessel. Because most of the listeners are attached to ordinary things such as non-Buddhist scriptures, and do not have the wisdom to understand good explanations, therefore they have the fault of not having wisdom; they do not pursue the meaning of good explanations, therefore they have the fault of not pursuing meaning; not only that, but also because they hate the author of good explanations with the defilement of jealousy, therefore they have the fault of not being impartial, and they are completely filled with these three faults. The second is: There will also be indirect benefits for those, because when the mind is well trained and the three faults of the vessel are eliminated, there will be direct benefits. It is also known that the Pramāṇavārttika was written to eliminate the defilement of jealousy. The third is: This teaching will directly benefit those listeners who have the three qualities of the vessel, because some listeners are not attached to ordinary scriptures and have the ability of wisdom, therefore they have the quality of having wisdom; they pursue the meaning of good explanations, therefore they have the quality of pursuing meaning; not only that, but also because they do not hate the author of good explanations with the defilement of jealousy, therefore they have the quality of being impartial.
