Because of the absence of characteristics, that is why. It pervades (is pervasive, universal): because that symbol is established for the purpose of understanding meaning at the time of expression (conceptualization). The second view is that of the Vaisheshika and Samkhya schools. In sequence, they assert that things that arise from appearances and are different from matter, as well as appearances and things that are the same as matter, do not rely on the illusion of the universal, but are the real objects of the symbol. Because they also exist at the time of expression, there is no fault as stated earlier. If someone thinks this way, then for those who believe that only the genus is the object of expression, the genus of the cow, as the subject, should not be the real object of the symbol called "cow" without relying on illusion. Because it is not suitable to act as the function of a cow, this is pervasive. Because when creating a symbol, in any case, the person seeking the meaning of the cow must know that the cow is able to function, and then accomplish it. Because they think that things will participate in actions, they express things, thereby creating symbols. The third view is divided into two: stating the view and refuting it. The first view is: by associating the symbol with the appearance that possesses that genus and is able to function, there will be no fault as stated earlier. If someone thinks this way, then the second view is divided into three: it is the same as things that have genus, only appearance; there is no need to examine other universals; even without other universals, it is reasonable to recognize. The first view is: since the symbol actually nourishes the appearance itself through the universal, why not associate the symbol with the appearance? If someone asks, if the symbol cannot be associated with the appearance, it is because it is infinite. Then, the appearance with genus, as the subject, you should not be able to associate with the symbol. Because this infinity is the same, because the genus has not reduced the number of appearances. The second view is: milking, plowing, and other functions, these functions are opposite to all things that do not do these functions, for the other exclusions that create illusions in external objects, why not use sound? As an answer to this question, if it is said that expressing things that have that genus, Dharmakirti has listed faults such as "because things that have that genus do not have autonomy," this is the same as this. Because our having genus and your having opposite are similar except for the name. If someone thinks this way, then this fault will be explained below as non-existent. Even if this fault occurs, it is acceptable, because the appearance, as the subject, for you, when a sound and consciousness enter, there is no need for other material genera. Even without other genus meanings

Because sound and consciousness arise simultaneously in a way that is contrary to what is not. The reason is, does the sound called "cow" distinguish or not distinguish other things? If it is like the first case, then the sound called "cow," as the subject, why is the combination meaningful, or is it meaningless? Because if you do not distinguish those things that you do not want, then you will not distinguish what you want. This is because the narrator thinks that by completely abandoning other things besides what he wants, the listener will focus on what he wants, so he makes the sound. Or, it is not only necessary to abandon what is not, but also to focus on what is. In the explanation, it is explained as meaning "only." If it is like the second case, this sound is not without distinction, but has distinction, so the sound will not become useless. Then, the particularist, as the subject, the category meaning that the sound points to is different, which is unreasonable. Is not the necessity of sound just to focus on what is desired by distinguishing other things? If so, distinguishing other things to focus on what is desired, for you, what is the use of other common meanings there? Because there is no need at all. The third part has three points: explaining the cause of the arising of recognition itself; negating other causes of the arising of recognition; eliminating the dispute over the cause of recognition. The first point is: if there is no commonality, then the consciousness of recognition will not arise for many appearances. If it is said so, then the appearances of the vase, as the subject, even if there are different things without a commonality, it is reasonable for the consciousness of recognition to arise. For example, things like pottery vases, which do the same thing, that is, fetching water, when they were previously seen, and later other things such as gold vases are seen, they still have the result of fetching water and holding the vase, and are separated from other things that do not produce those results, having the speech of excluding objects, that is, the internal expressions, by combining the previous things with the present things, thereby recognizing them as one. The second part has four points: a single commonality is not suitable as the cause of recognition consciousness; the appearance assisted by the commonality is not suitable as the cause; multiple things dependent on the commonality are not suitable as the cause; the commonality dependent on any one is also not suitable as the cause. The first point is: even according to the view of others who believe that recognition consciousness arises from the commonality, then recognition consciousness, as the subject, the appearance
