Furthermore, how can existence exist and yet not exist? Because the co-emergent view of self is abandoned. Why is the co-emergent view of self not abandoned? A stream-enterer (Srotaāpanna), by nature, does not abandon it because they have the desire for themselves to be happy or not to suffer. Pervasive: Because at that time, whatever thought arises of "I," it is the co-emergent view of sentient beings. Again, a stream-enterer (Srotaāpanna), by nature, does not run after happiness because they desire happiness, because the co-emergent view of self is abandoned. Pervasive: Because without seeing "I," no one clings to self. Without craving for self, they do not run after happiness. Fourth, refuting that the self performs bondage and liberation, there are two parts: refuting the action of the permanent self, and refuting the action of the inexpressible. First, all sentient beings, by nature, have a self that binds and liberates, because the self is bound by the suffering of samsara and is liberated from it. Just as Devadatta is bound by iron chains and is liberated from them. If so, the permanent self, by nature, from what does bondage arise? It cannot arise, because it is not a cause of suffering. Pervasive: Because bondage by suffering is the very cause of the arising of suffering. Again, the permanent self, by nature, from what does liberation from suffering arise? It cannot arise, because it is not a cause of the cessation of suffering. Pervasive: Because liberation from suffering is the non-arising of suffering, it is the very cause of cessation. Why is it not the cause of these two? Whatever the self is, by nature, it is not the cause of suffering, etc., because it is inexpressible as impermanent. Second, the Sthavira says, it is unreasonable for a permanent self to have bondage and liberation, but for a self that cannot be expressed as either permanent or impermanent, bondage and liberation are reasonable. For a self that cannot be expressed as permanent or impermanent, by nature, there is no bondage or liberation in any way, because it is not the cause of either the arising or cessation of suffering. The self, by nature, is permanent, because it is indestructible. Pervasive: Because whatever dharma's nature is indestructible, the wise call it permanent. The Sthavira, by nature, the self

This shameful view that says, "Something that is neither permanent nor impermanent" should be abandoned, and it should be said that I (the individual) am permanent, because I am not impermanent. Fourth, in order to establish the antidote to the view of self, the truth of the path is explained, there are two: Showing that realizing selflessness is the antidote; Establishing the reason for being an antidote. The first has three: Showing that habituating to selflessness obtains transformation; Refuting that even if transformation is obtained, it can destroy what is to be abandoned; Refuting the reason for not obtaining transformation. The first is: What has already been said in the previous explanation, the path of seeing selflessness, is the one with characteristics, it is the path that becomes the antidote to samsara, because when you complete the cultivation from habituation, the continuum of the mind of the cultivator, is the basis of faults, completely transformed and obtains the path of transformation that abides in the nature of realizing selflessness. The second has three: Showing that there is no ability to destroy what is to be abandoned; Explaining in detail the reason for not having the ability; Refuting the contradiction of holding the establishment and abandoning the dispute. The first is: If the mind with faults, even if it transforms once into faultlessness, but faults such as clinging to self and what belongs to self will still arise in this mind, therefore there is no complete liberation from samsara, just as the path arises in the mind with faults, if it is said like this. The mind transformed from the path of habituation, is the one with characteristics, faults etc. do not arise again, because there is no ability for faults etc. to arise again. The second has four: The holding of what is to be abandoned and the antidote contradict each other, and the antidote enters the real meaning; Because there is a difference between self-nature and suddenness, there was no ability before; Even if there is ability, the antidote can be generated effortlessly; The antidote with three differences, even if you try, you cannot stop it. The first is: Why is there no ability? The mind transformed by cultivating the path, is the one with characteristics, you do not have the ability for faults such as clinging to self to arise again, because in general, the Sautrantika school, consciousness is not mistaken, so the dharma or way of abiding that holds the object is to hold the aspect of how the object exists, and the object is also the nature of how it exists itself, and it is also the generator of this consciousness, such an object, has an unmistakable object, so it has the nature of holding the object, you this
